Supported Employment Services. Definition: Supported Employment services through DRS provide time-limited, personalized supports for people with significant disabilities to obtain and maintain competitive integrated employment. Supported Employment services through DDD provide individuals with on-going supports necessary to work for compensation in a variety of community-integrated work environments in which persons without disabilities are also employed. Supported Employment is based on the principle that with the proper supports, all individuals, regardless of the nature or extent of their disability, can be gainfully employed in competitive integrated individualized settings with commensurate income/benefits and promotional opportunity that people without disabilities would have. Focus on increasing opportunities for people with disabilities to procure and retain competitive integrated employment under both DDD and DRS models is a step towards rebalancing Illinois' disability service system towards community-based services. Taking this step brings Illinois closer to compliance with the ADA's integration mandate, increases independence and productivity of people with disabilities, and reduces dependence on publicly funded programs.
Supported Employment Services. Employment services provided by DORS and/or DDA to support individuals in competitive integrated employment when extended services are required.
