Utilization of Skilled Trades. It is recognized and understood that, at times and for varying reasons, it is not considered practical or advisable for certain work to be performed in-house (by maintenance) The Company must, therefore, reserve the right to decide how and by whom any work is to be performed. This article is not to be regarded as affecting that right, provided however, we have the necessary facilities and equipment and can perform the work required with our own workforce in a manner that is competitive in terms of quality and within projected time limits. It is the policy of the Company to fully utilize its own employees in the skilled trades classifications in the performance of maintenance, and any other activity customarily performed by the skilled trades workforce in the plant. The Company will provide the trades rep with 5 days’ notice whenever possible of outside contracting relating to work which is normally performed by the skilled trades workforce. No bargaining unit skilled trades journey person with the appropriate skills and ability and who customarily performs the work in question will be indefinitely laid off as a direct and immediate result of work being performed by outside contractors, provided that the Company has the necessary facilities and equipment and the work can be performed by such employee.

  • SPECIAL SKILLS Five percent (5%) of the employees (not less than one person) to be laid off within a class within an agency shall be exempt from the seniority factor when the State determines that there is a need for special skills. “Special skills” refers to jobs difficult to fill with a replacement except after extensive training. Where practical, the State will attempt to meets its “special skills” requirements be exempting the employees with the highest seniority among employees with the same special skills. Management decisions on special skills shall be subject to expedited arbitration provided, however, that no back pay remedy shall accrue to any individual employee.

  • Apprenticeships and Skills 6.1 The Authority will review the Contractor’s Apprenticeships and Skills Report when submitted by the Contractor in accordance with the Schedule (Apprenticeships and Skills Requirements) and then annually thereafter.
