Skilled Trades Seniority. Upon completion of Apprenticeship Program, the employee will be credited with the time spent on the progression for purposes of seniority within the trade. Present employees of Skilled Trades shall have seniority as may be established as of October 27, 1982. Future employees entering the Skilled Trades classification shall have "date of entry" seniority. A Skilled Trades employee who bids out of the Skilled Trades into a Production job, shall forfeit any recall right to a Skilled Trades classification, as per Article 15.6 of the General Agreement. If such employee at sometime in the future bids back into the Skilled Trades, she/he shall have a new date of entry seniority in Skilled Trades. Employees working in a skilled trade on temporary posting(s) will be granted a Skilled Trades entry date crediting them with three (3) months Skilled Trades seniority when they have accumulated three (3) months of time on such temporary assignments in a single classification. If an employee so credited is not assigned temporary future work in such classification for thirty-six (36) months, his/her skilled trades seniority shall lapse. In Skilled Trades, vacation will be paid at the Journeyperson rate, a) if he/she has worked a minimum of three (3) months in the trade in the previous vacation year. or b) is in the trade at the time the vacation is taken. If the employee is not in the trade at the time vacation is taken and subsequently works three (3) months in the trade, he/she will be paid vacation at the Journeyperson rate the following vacation year.

Skilled Trades Seniority. (a) A separate seniority list for skilled trades will be maintained. Seniority on the seniority list shall be by the trade classification and employees currently in a skilled trade’s classification as listed above, will have their full seniority applied to the Skilled Trades, with the ability to fully utilize this seniority in the event of a reduction in force. (b) Employees that are dual ticketed will carry seniority in only one trade classification, and must be able to hold seniority in that trade classification to remain at work. (c) New employees entering the skilled trades after the ratification of the 2014 Collective Agreement shall have their date of entry into the skilled trades as their seniority date. These employees will only be able to exercise their seniority in the general group in event of a layoff over junior employees provided they are qualified to do the work. (d) An employee who has successfully completed an apprenticeship program will have their Skilled Trades seniority date set as of the date of entry into the apprenticeship program and his Company seniority date shall be from their date of hire by the Company. (e) Employees in the Skilled Trades classifications will be laid off if a reduction in the work force is necessary within their respective classification, on the basis of the date of entry. Probationary employees will be the first to be laid off. (f) Apprentices will be allowed to go on Block Release if required by the apprenticeship program, provided they give notice pursuant to 16.01. They will be paid mileage to attend the program at CRA vehicle allowance rate.

Skilled Trades Seniority. An employee working in a Skilled Trades classification shall be affected in the same manner and to the same extent by all the provisions of this Local Seniority Agreement except that the provisions of Paragraphs and shall not apply to Skilled Trades classifications. Skilled Trades Seniority a. A newly hired journeyperson shall acquire seniority rights in a skilled trade upon completion of his/her probationary period. b. The skilled trades’ probationary period shall be sixty (60) days worked. c. An employee promoted into a skilled trade from another bargaining unit position, or who transfers from another skilled trade, shall acquire seniority rights in the skilled trade upon completion of the skilled trades probationary period. d. The probationary period must be completed in its entirety within one skilled trade. Once s/he has acquired seniority, his/her skilled trade seniority date will be his/her date of entry into the trade. e. The application of skilled trade seniority shall be within each skilled trade and shall be non-interchangeable on a classification or skilled trades basis. f. A supplemental helper shall not accumulate seniority within a skilled trade, but shall continue to accumulate bargaining unit seniority.
