The Automation Technological Change clause outlines how an organization will address the introduction or implementation of new technologies or automated systems that may impact the workplace or workforce. Typically, this clause specifies procedures for notifying employees or unions about upcoming technological changes, and may include provisions for retraining, redeployment, or severance if jobs are affected. Automation Technological Change. In the event of installation of new mechanical, electronic or automated equipment that will affect the job status of any employee(s) in the Bargaining Unit, the Company will endeavour to:
(a) Give as a minimum, six (6) months advance notice where possible before the installation of such equipment, meet with the Union Negotiating Committee and provide the Committee with data regarding proposed date of installation, number and classification of employees likely to be affected by it and then affected employees will be notified.
(b) Place affected employees in other jobs or classifications in accordance with the terms of the collective agreement. Where training is to be provided on a job impacted by technological change, the Company agrees to provide the training opportunity first to the senior employee(s) affected where it can be reasonably expected such employee(s) can learn to perform the job(s).
Automation Technological Change. The Company agrees to give as minimum, six (6) months advance notice where impending changes in production necessitate a reduction or elimination of employees. Technological change shall mean:
Automation Technological Change a) In the event of automation, technological change or when the Company permanently ceases or removes the operation of a machine, or makes changes to existing manufacturing processes whereby the Company must reduce its operation, the Company will meet with the Union at least thirty (30) calendar days prior to such changes to discuss practical ways and means of minimizing the impact on affected employees.
b) Where bumping occurs, it should be done as per procedure outline in 25.05.a)
Automation Technological Change. (a) In the event the Company proposes the introduction of new technology or automated equipment that would result in a reduction of the work force in its operations, the Company agrees to give the Union reasonable advance notice in writing.
(b) Where specialized training is required, the Company agrees to give present employees the first opportunity in accordance with Article 7. The Company shall pay the full cost of the required and approved training upon successful completion.

Automation Technological Change. The Union that the Company may introduce automation and technological changes into the work place affecting the work force. The Company and the Union agree that they have jointly and severally, a real and direct responsibility at all levels to reduce to a minimum the adverse effects that may result from the changes that are involved. Technological change in this clause means: The introduction by an employer into his work, undertaking or business of equipment or material of a different nature or kind than that previously by the employer in the operation, of the work, undertaking or business, and;
Automation Technological Change a) The Company will advise the Union as soon as possible and in any case not less than ninety (90) days before the introduction thereof, of any technological changes and/or automation which the Company has decided to introduce, that will result in significant changes in the employment status of employees. Information necessary for a constructive discussion of these matters will be made available to the Union.
b) An employee who is permanently set back to a lower paid job because of technological change or automation, will receive the rate for his/her permanent job at the time of the setback for a period of six (6) months and for a further period of six (6) months he/she will be paid an adjusted rate which will be mid-way between the rate for his/her permanent job at the time of the set-back and the rate of his/her new permanent job. At the end of this twelve (12) months period, the rate for his/her new permanent job will apply.
c) When paragraph (a) is implemented there will be a review of the rates and/or crewing. When a function has been substantially changed or a new function or new responsibility is added, a revised or new rate will be established in accordance with Article 28.15.
d) The Company agrees to discuss with the Union the effect of such technological changes on the employment status of employees and to consider practical ways and means of minimizing the adverse effect on employees displaced by such changes. Such measures as early retirement, retraining and transfer to other existing jobs will be considered where seniority and ability warrant such consideration. A Joint Committee shall be established on Automation at the Etobicoke Plant and shall consist of three persons representing the Union. It shall be the function of the Committee to study the effect of technological changes and conditions in the plant and to make such recommendations as are agreed upon to the Plant Manager to ensure that the interests of the Company and of employees are fairly and effectively protected. Normally a Committee would go into action when advised by Plant Management that it has been decided to introduce some technological change or aspect of automation.

Automation Technological Change. In the event of installation of new mechanical, electronic, automated equipment or any other changes that will effect the methods of production or job status of any employee(s) in the Bargaining Unit, the Company will;
(a) give as a minimum where possible, six (6) months advance notice before the change is implemented, meet the Union negotiating committee and provide the committee with data regarding the proposed date of installation, number and classification of employees likely to be affected by it. If the parties agree, then the Company and the Union will meet with the affected employees to inform them of pending changes to their status. If the parties agree that the changes are significant enough to warrant doing so, the job(s) will be posted. In the event that the parties cannot agree, then Article 17.01 (c) will apply. There will be ongoing meetings, as required, but in no event more than 30 days apart, at which the Union committee will be able to give their input to this change.
(b) place affected employees in other jobs or classifications in accordance with the seniority provision of this agreement. Where training is to be provided on any job impacted by changes as described above, the Company agrees to provide the training opportunity first to the senior employee(s) affected. These employees, including employees in skilled trades classifications will receive training in the plant as well as other appropriate facilities, such as Community college or trade schools, on Company time. The employee will suffer no loss of regular wages while attending such training facilities outside the workplace. The Company will make the necessary training available for any skilled trade employee(s) to become qualified in the skills and techniques required because of technological change. Wherever possible and practical training for skilled trades will be conducted on site during regular working hours.
Automation Technological Change. 24.01 [a] When it is necessary to reduce the number of employees in any classification because of automation and/or technological change, the reduction shall take place through attrition or re-‐assignment of employees affected. Attrition shall mean the reduction of the work force by retirement, death, voluntary termination and disability. [b] When the City plans a change in its present method of procedures and practices brought about because of automation and technological change, the City will give to the Union as much notice as possible of such a change. [c] A Joint Management -‐ Union Committee will be established for the purpose of retraining, upgrading, and placement of employees who may be displaced because of a reduction in the work force. [d] In the case of work displacement because of automation and/or technological change, employees within their classification with the greatest seniority will be given first consideration for retraining and upgrading for whatever jobs that they could be trained for. [e] Present employees will be given first consideration for any new position created because of automation and technological change.
