BEREAVEMENT LEAV E. An employee shall be granted, in the event of the death of her spouse, common-law spouse, partner, son or daughter, bereavement leave of up to five (5) days with pay from her scheduled tour of duty that occur during the five (5) days immediately following the day of death. An employee shall be granted bereavement leave of up to three (3) days with pay from her scheduled tour of duty that occur during the five (5) days immediately following the event of the death of: her father, her mother, the spouse or common-law spouse of the father or mother her brother, her sister her father-in-law, her mother-in-law, the spouse or common-law spouse of her father-in-law or mother-in-law the father or mother of her common-law spouse or partner a dependant or other relative residing in the same permanent residence as does the employee. The Company may extend the periods of bereavement leave provided for in Sections and to a maximum of five (5) days with pay from her scheduled tours of duty that occur during the seven (7) days immediately following the day of death, when it is necessary for the employee to leave the city in which she is employed. An employee shall be granted, in the event of the death of her grandparent or grandchild, bereavement leave of up to three (3) days with pay from her scheduled tours of duty that occur during the five (5) days immediately following the day of death. BEREAVEMENT LEAV E. Teachers shall be provided up to three (3) days bereavement leave each year. Bereavement leaves may be taken in the event of the death of a member of the immediate family. One day of bereavement leave may be taken in the event of the death of a person other than the immediate family. The administration, at their discretion, may extend bereavement leave days for extraordinary circumstances. Allowance of bereavement leave will be granted through the Superintendent’s office. Bereavement leave is non- cumulative. Bereavement leave may be approved for less than a full day. For the purposes of bereavement leave, “immediate family” is defined as “spouse, children, parents and step-parents, grandparents, sisters, brothers, grandchildren, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews of the teacher or the teacher’s spouse”. Additionally, any other family member who lives with and/or is the responsibility of the teacher will be included.
BEREAVEMENT LEAV E. The County shall amend its bereavement leave policy to provide that individuals attending to a death in the immediate family shall be allowed up to five (5) days of bereavement leave. Except as modified herein, the bereavement leave policy as set forth in the County Personnel Rules shall remain unchanged.

  • Bereavement Leave of Absence An employee who has a bereavement in their immediate family will be granted up to and including five (5) days absence with pay. Immediate family means spouse, (as defined in Section 2(b) of Appendix 2), parents, and child. For this provision “step” relationships are considered as immediate family.   • BEREAVEMENT/TANGIHANGA LEAVE 15.1 The employer shall approve special bereavement leave on pay for an employee to discharge any obligation and/or to pay respects to a deceased person with whom the employee has had a close association. Such obligations may exist because of blood or family ties or because of particular cultural requirements such as attendance at all or part of a Tangihanga (or its equivalent). The length of time off shall be at the discretion of the employer.
