Educational Benefit Opportunities. The District will make every effort to insure that educational classes and training are evenly distributed so that employees are able to maintain their job skills and career advancement opportunities. District and the Union recognize that the abilities and responsibilities increase as an employee progresses throughout their career. This list is designed to ensure that the District’s priorities are maintained while allowing employees educational opportunities. All classes may be approved by the Fire Chief or their designee. Bargaining unit employees denied an equivalent opportunity to attend the classes within their respective employee group may appeal to the Deputy Chief of Operations. Additional courses may be approved by the Fire Chief or his designee based on the operational needs of the District. Applications for educational opportunities shall be annually submitted to the Fire Chief or their designee no later than January 15th. The courses listed below are eligible for being approved by the Fire Chief:  Illinois OSFM Advanced Technician Fire Fighter  Illinois OSFM Fire Apparatus Engineer  Illinois OSFM Awareness Level courses  Illinois OSFM Technician Level courses related to an employee’s designated specialized rescue team  Hands-On firefighter training classesEmergency Medical Service (EMS) classes as appropriate  Two (2) college courses per semester at a community college or university level rate  Illinois OSFM Operations Level courses  Illinois OSFM Fire Officer I courses  Illinois OSFM courses or similar  All courses required to be eligible to test for the positions of Lieutenant, Training Officer and Deputy Fire Marshal For Lieutenants and Acting Lieutenants:  Illinois OSFM Fire Officer II courses  All courses required to be eligible to test for the position of Battalion Chief A community college level rate is considered the cost of in-district tuition, fees and books for up to a four (4) hour class at the College of Lake County located in Grayslake, IL. A university level rate is considered the cost of in-state tuition, fees and books for up to a four (4) hour class at the University of Illinois located in Champaign-Urbana, IL. The book reimbursement rate shall be limited to the most cost effective means such as but not limited to used books, book rentals, or electronic books unless approved by the Fire Chief or his designee.   • EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES The Personnel Department will mail to the Association copies of all recruitment bulletins. Tentative examination bulletins approved by the Head of the Examining Division of the Personnel Department will be mailed two (2) calendar days prior to the date that said bulletins are scheduled to be approved by the Civil Service Commission.

  • Job Opportunities Section 1: Temporary Assignments Unforeseen circumstances may arise on a shift, which would require an Employee to be temporarily assigned to work other than that he would normally perform. Should such circumstances arise, the Company shall first canvass for volunteers from those employees who are able to perform the work. Should there be more volunteers than are needed, the Company shall assign the work to the volunteer with the highest seniority. Should there be no volunteers; the Company shall assign the work to the lowest seniority employee able to perform the work. Temporary Assignments may be filled according to the process set out in this Article for a period of up to forty-five (45) days. Thereafter, the Temporary Assignment will be posted on a plant wide basis and made available to the most senior employee able to perform the work. In the event that the Temporary Assignment is going to exceed forty-five (45) days, and this fact is known at the time the vacancy first becomes available, the Company will post the Temporary Assignment in accordance with Section 2 at the time the Temporary Assignment first becomes available. If an Employee is temporarily required to fill a higher paid job, the Employee will receive the higher rate of pay for all hours spent performing the job, if he or she performs the job in excess of two (2) hours per shift. If an Employee is temporarily required to fill a lower paid job, his or her rate of pay shall not be reduced. In the event additional temporary assignments are required, the job will be filled in accordance with the process provided above. Subsequent to the completion of a Temporary Assignment, an Employee will be returned to his or her previous position, subject to seniority considerations.

  • Promotional Opportunities Each university shall promote upward mobility of employees by announcing opportunities as they occur. In all cases, it is the employee’s responsibility to make proper application for such positions. If an employee meets the minimum and special qualifications for a position, he/she will be considered.
