Evidence of Physical Fitness. All new employees at the time of employment shall secure a physical examination from a licensed physician showing evidence of physical fitness and freedom from communicable disease including tuberculosis. The cost of the examination will be paid by the employee. The Board may at any future time require an employee to get an examination and shall pay the cost of the examination from school funds. Physicals must be turned in within thirty (30) days of the date of employment or the employee may be discharged. A receipt will be given to the employee by the supervisor at the time it is turned in. In the event that the original physical examination form is lost or misplaced by the District, the second request must be paid for by the Board.

The cost of such examination, unless specified otherwise, shall rest with the employee. The Board may from time to time require an examination of any employee by a licensed physician. The examination may include random drug and alcohol tests or drug and alcohol tests given because of suspicion of use, as defined by the administration. The cost of examinations shall rest with the employer, except for cases where ability to work or not work and/or certification of illness is required. Bus drivers are subject to random and pre-employment drug tests. Such test and procedures will be administered according to state requirements.

  • Physical Fitness New Employees. New employees are required to file a medical examination report with the Director of Health Services before reporting for duty in the Des Moines schools.
