Guardian Requirements. It is the primary responsibility of the parents to appoint an Education Guardian and the selection of the appropriate person or organisation rests with the parents. Wellington School may be able to provide details of agencies or individuals who have acted as guardians to students from the School in the past, but we do not recommend any specific agency or individual. Parents must fully satisfy themselves as to the suitability of their chosen Education Guardian. The appointed Guardian:- • May be a nominated friend of the family or another family member, or may be employed by a professional guardianship agency. Most overseas parents use a guardianship agency to act as Education Guardian. Guardianship agencies typically arrange accommodation as well as acting as Educational Guardian for their students. Guardianship agencies will usually arrange accommodation for their students through host families, although sometimes other accommodation options will be used. Host families will then be responsible for providing the day to day care of the student, accommodation and meals. If the guardianship agency arranges accommodation for the child or young person, the agency will be responsible for ensuring the quality and safety of the accommodation including the necessary recruitment (DBS) checks. • must be over 25 years of age and should not be a full-time student. • must not be a member of the School staff • should have a permanent place of residence in the UK and ideally should reside within three hours travelling distance from the School, by either car or public transport. • should be English speaking and able to provide a point of contact for the School at all times. • should liaise with the School over School holiday arrangements, including informing the School about details of travel arrangements made for students leaving on all authorised breaks and at the beginning and end of term. They must be a nominated friend of the family, another family member, or be employed by a professional Guardianship Agency. • They must be over 25 years of age and should not be a full-time student. • They should have a permanent or semi-permanent place of residence in the UK and must live within one hour travelling distance from the boarding house or school. • They should be English speaking and able to provide a point of contact for the boarding house at all times. • They must, in the parents’ absence, liaise with the boarding house over school holiday and exeat arrangements including details of travel arrangements. Ideally this will be done by email. • They must adhere to current legislation and school policy to provide the required self- isolation / quarantine arrangements for COVID-19 prior to the student returning to school & the boarding house. • They must provide accurate contact information (including telephone/mobile, email and full address contact details) to the Admissions team and regularly update this information as necessary. • A Guardian must provide safe and suitable accommodation and appropriate care and supervision for the student during periods when they cannot be accommodated at the boarding house (including periods of long-term illness or where disciplinary measures require the student to reside away from the boarding house). Regardless of the child’s age, we do not consider unsupervised stays in hotels, bed and breakfast accommodation or University Halls of Residence to provide an adequate level of accommodation or care. • If Guardians are going to be away from their UK home, for however short a time, they must notify the Head of Boarding. They must give full contact details for the period of absence and the name and address of a responsible person in the UK, fully authorised by the parents to act on their behalf. • Guardians (and, where possible, parents) are expected to meet with the Head of Boarding in advance of the pupil beginning their studies with Astrum Education. Guardian Requirements a) It is the responsibility of the parents to appoint an Educational Guardian. Vinehall are unable to make recommendations but a list of all accredited Guardianship Organisations can be found on the AEGIS website.
b) The appointed Educational Guardian may be a nominated friend of the family or another family member or may be employed by a professional Educational Guardianship Organisation.
c) The appointed person must be over 25 years of age and should not be a full time student.
d) The appointed Educational Guardian should have a permanent place of residence in the UK and should reside within two hours travelling distance from Vinehall, either by car or public transport.
e) They should be English speaking and able to be, or provide, a point of contact for Vinehall at all times.
f) To provide Vinehall with full details of travel arrangements at the beginning and end of the school terms, School Holidays and Exeats. This information must be provided in writing (email is acceptable) within 48 hours of the request being made by the Houseparent.
g) To provide the Vinehall Admissions Office with full and accurate contact details for parents and guardians and update when necessary.
h) An Educational Guardian must provide safe and suitable accommodation and appropriate care and supervision for the pupil during periods when they cannot be accommodated at Vinehall, including long term illness or for any disciplinary measures.
i) If the appointed Educational Guardian will be away from their UK home, irrespective of the length of time, they must notify the Houseparent at Vinehall. They must provide their full contact details for the time they will be away from their UK address and provide the name and address of a responsible person in the UK who has been authorised by the parents to act on their behalf.
j) Educational Guardians, or where possible parents, are expected to attend Parents’ Evenings and School Events.
k) Educational Guardians should be familiar with the School’s rules, regulations and policies and support the School’s aims and values.
l) Guardians must ensure that legal documents such as Visas and passports are kept up to date and renewed when necessary.
m) Vinehall must be advised of any change of Educational Guardian, in writing and signed by the parents, providing full details in order to facilitate continuous care.
