Informal Complaint Stage. It is the mutual desire of the Parties that a complaint of an employee shall be resolved as promptly as possible. To that end it is understood that an employee has no grievance until she has first discussed her complaint with her Chair/Program Director, or designate without satisfaction. The employee may, if she wishes, be accompanied by her Xxxxxxx or in the Xxxxxxx’x absence, the Chief Xxxxxxx. Should any difference arise between the Employer and any employee from the interpretation, application, administration or alleged violation of the provisions of this Agreement, an xxxxxxx effort shall be made to settle such difference without undue delay. If a formal grievance is to be filed, it shall be initiated within fifteen (15) working days of the date of the employee having knowledge of the act in question. Grievances filed by the Union shall be filed in writing to the Xxxx with a copy to the appropriate Chair/Program Director and Human Resources.

Informal Complaint Stage. Before the formal grievance procedure is initiated, efforts will normally be made to resolve the dispute through informal discussion with the immediate supervisor. In such cases, complaints shall be discussed with the immediate supervisor within ten (10) working days of the incident or original circumstances giving rise to the complaint, or within ten (10) working days after the complainant became aware of or ought reasonably to have known of the incident or original circumstances giving rise to the complaint. An authorized Union representative may accompany the complainant at the informal stage, if the complainant so wishes. The immediate supervisor shall respond within five (5) working days after the complaint was discussed and, if not satisfied, the complainant may file an individual grievance as set out in Article 20.5.
Informal Complaint Stage. The Parties agree that every reasonable effort should be made to resolve a complaint expeditiously and without prejudice through informal discussion. Any Employee or Group of Employees is encouraged to present a verbal complaint to their employment supervisor(s), or to the Xxxx of the School of Graduate Studies or designate in the case of grievances which are to be initiated at Step 2, in an attempt to settle such complaints through informal discussion before the formal grievance procedure is initiated. If a Member and/or the Local designate is/are unable to resolve by informal discussion with the Principal (supervisor) and/or appropriate Superintendent any question as to the interpretation, application, administration, or alleged violation of the terms of this Agreement, including any question as to whether a matter is arbitrable, a grievance may be filed as hereinafter provided.

If it is not possible to first discuss the complaint with the supervisor, due to the circumstances of such complaint, the Parties may, by mutual agreement, bypass the informal complaint stage.
