Military Reserve Leave. 1. Any teacher employee, who as a reserve member of the armed forces of the United States, is called on to receive temporary military training, shall be entitled to a temporary leave, not to exceed federal guidelines in any one calendar year. The teacher shall have deducted from his/her pay only the amount required to replace the teacher with a substitute so long as the teacher does not have the option of attending during the summer. If the training is available in the summer and the teacher chooses to attend during the school year, the teacher shall have deducted from his pay the amount received from the military service. Upon his return, he/she will be restored to his/her previous position without loss of sick leave or other benefits of employment. 2. Military Leave - A leave of absence not to exceed four (4) years shall be granted by the Board of School Trustees to any teacher who is required or may elect to enter the military service. The teacher employee shall present himself/herself for reinstatement within the period provided by Federal Statute after honorable discharge or release from active participation in such service and shall thereupon be reinstated. The status of such a teacher employee in matters of salary, tenure, and retirement shall be as though no interruption of teaching had occurred.
