Potholing. 4.1 The Consultant shall excavate sufficient potholes to verify locations and elevations at utility crossings and existing piping to be removed or replaced in the Project. These potholes may be made using small diameter vacuum-type equipment, if appropriate.
Potholing. The quantity, location and depth of potholes will be determined during the design phase. The potholing sub-consultant will be immediately contracted for disposal of hazardous soils associated with the 3 borings near the I-8 crossing. The Consultant shall obtain all necessary encroachment permits for subsurface investigations.
Potholing. We will prepare recommendations and perform potholing, as necessary, to verify the depths and locations of critical utilities and record the information on cut sheets for use during design. We will incorporate this information into our design and show locations and information on the final set of construction documents. We have included a pothole budget for approximately eight (8) locations. This may change once the alignments have been selected and we have a clear understanding of the precise location of the proposed facilities.
Potholing. RMC will identify utilities or other buried structures along the pipeline alignment whose location may significantly impact the project design, could potentially result in costly change orders, or poses a safety hazard during construction. Such facilities may include but are not limited to large diameter or high pressure gas mains, large electrical or communication ducts, and large water pipelines (greater than 16” diameter). In general, gravity pipelines (sewer and storm sewers) will be accurately located using surveyed invert elevations at manholes and other structures and will not require potholing. The fee estimate assumes up to 5 potholes will be performed. The horizontal and vertical location of potholed facilities will be depicted on the Drawings. RMC assumes that BWP will pay for potholing permit and lane closure fees separately. Task 4: Project Implementation Schedule. RMC will update the project implementation schedule, including an estimate for completion of design, bidding, award and construction. The schedule will be refined and submitted to BWP at 50%, 90% and Final Design.
Potholing. The Design Professional’s qualified subconsultant will perform up to eighteen (18) potholes along the pipeline alignment for purposes of locating and determining size and depth of existing utilities. The potholes will be excavated using non-disruptive air/vacuum method. The potholes will be backfilled with a permanent surface hot patch asphalt repair. Each pothole location will be marked with a PK nail, paint, or stake for survey locating. The pothole subconsultant will coordinate with USA DigAlert for local utility information and mark out, follow-up with identified utilities and mapping prior to finalizing the pothole locations. The potholing subconsultant will obtain necessary encroachment permits for subsurface investigations. The potholing subconsultant will develop non-engineered traffic control plans and provide traffic control measures during potholing operations. The results of potholing activities will be provided in a pothole utility report. Should hazardous materials be encountered, Design Professional will contact the City if such work is necessary. All transport of hazardous waste shall be performed by the City of San Diego’s on-call hazardous materials testing vendor. Services will be provided through design phase only. Permit and agency fees will be paid by the City.

A potholing contractor will then be utilized (Badger) to locate key utilities to determine if relocation is necessary to accommodate infrastructure improvements. Potholing activities will involve vacuum excavating pothole locations to confirm underground utilities per the conceptual drawings. The horizontal and vertical location of the potholed utilities will be surveyed in the field. The results of potholing activities will be incorporated into the utility plans. Potholing at ten locations is assumed for budgetary purposes.
