What we expect from you. CBT calls for a very active effort on your part. In order to ensure treatment success, the client (and potentially family members) must make a commitment to work on treatment goals between sessions, not just during therapy sessions. You and your provider will identify specific goals and agree on assignments for you to practice at home.
What we expect from you. In order to achieve our goals, there are a few things we expect of you. We expect that you are here to find a way to heal yourself, to resolve problems in your life or to resolve problems with others. We expect you to talk honestly and as openly as you can about the things that will help you achieve these goals. If you experience something here that is a problem for you, we expect you to tell us. We expect you to be responsive to us if we talk with you about a problem such as lying or cheating. If the behavior continues, we may not be able to serve you at the clinic and we will be clear about that decision with you. You can expect all people who work here to treat you with respect and dignity. You can expect those who work in this clinic to help you heal yourself, resolve problems and pursue peaceful ways of living with others. You can expect us to form a genuine relationship with you that is founded on trust. You can expect us to be honest with you about what is possible and what is not possible, what we are able to do and what we are not able to do. You can expect us to keep what you talk about confidential, unless you have given your permission for us to talk with someone about you. You can also expect that interpreters who serve clients at this clinic will also keep what you talk about confidential. You can expect us to talk with you if there is a problem with your behavior. If you are unable or unwilling, for some reason, to change the behavior, we may have to request that you get services somewhere else. You can expect us to help you find another provider if you need to change providers. We will start with an assessment in which we will ask many questions of you about your background. Some of those questions may touch on experiences from the past that may be difficult to talk about. The assessment allows us to obtain a “big picture” of your life. It also helps us to understand more fully what some of your current problems may be that we will try to help you overcome. After we complete the assessment which usually takes 1-3 sessions, we will complete a treatment plan. The treatment plan will be developed with you and will identify goals that we will work on together. After this, the process of therapy continues. Usually you will meet with your therapist weekly. Your sessions will be 45-50 minutes usually. You will be talking with your therapist about current hurtful or troubling feelings or problems or past traumatic experiences. Therapy can last for ...
