Substantial Use of University Resources definition

Substantial Use of University Resources means unreimbursed use of University Resources at a level not ordinarily used by or available to, all or virtually all, faculty, staff or graduate students, as the case may be. Ordinarily available University Resources include assigned office, laboratory and studio space and standard office, laboratory and studio equipment, office computer workstations, library and other general use information resources and the means of network access to such resources. The University does not construe the payment of salary in the form of release time or sabbatical as constituting substantial use of University Resources, except in those situations where the release time or sabbatical is granted specifically to support the development of Commissioned Work. Use of ordinarily available University Resources for private, commercial purposes is considered substantial use.
Substantial Use of University Resources means use of University facilities, equipment, personnel and an employee’s own time beyond nominal (or customary) as described above. Substantial Use of resources occurs when creation of the work or Intellectual Property in question requires use of University resources beyond those allocated to individuals in support of assigned responsibilities and activities within their respective departments or colleges. Such usage may occur as a result of actions of the personnel involved, may occur when specific assignments are given to personnel, or may occur in situations where contracts or other obligations are involved.
Substantial Use of University Resources means use of University funds, programs, equipment, space or other physical assets that go above and beyond those customarily and currently provided to included persons. For purposes of this policy, offices, office equipment, library access, desktop and laptop computers, photocopy equipment, telephone, and fax machines, which are customarily provided would be excluded from determination of substantial use of University resources.

Examples of Substantial Use of University Resources in a sentence

  • A Member of the University who wishes to conduct work making Substantial Use of University Resources under terms different from those set forth in the General Rule above may enter into an agreement for the use of such resources with the College(s) where such work shall be conducted.

  • This policy shall apply to all forms of Intellectual Property created or developed, in whole or in part, by Members of the University (1) making Substantial Use of University Resources, (2) as a direct result of University duties, (3) pursuant to the terms of an agreement to which the University is a party, or (4) in the course of or related to activities on grants or contracts administered by the Research Foundation on behalf of the University.

  • It is recognized that students working individually or as part of a team of students on a Senior Design Project which involves a problem or question initiated and framed by a third party sponsor may make Substantial Use of University Resources.

  • These programs and facilities may offer shared use of basic services and facilities, among other activities, and such use may constitute Substantial Use of University Resources.

  • Where a student(s) participates in the work or research of a faculty member(s), and such student participation does not constitute Substantial Use of University Resources on the part of the faculty member(s), the student and faculty member may agree prior to the commencement of such work or research to allocate the copyright arising with respect to such work or research between the student and faculty member, as they may agree.


More Definitions of Substantial Use of University Resources

Substantial Use of University Resources means use of University resources, including personnel other than the Creator, beyond the office, computer, and internet connectivity provided to the Creator by the University.
Substantial Use of University Resources means more than incidental use of NYU resources. The following are examples of Substantial Use of University Resources (in the absence of advance written approval of NYU that explicitly states they will not be deemed to be considered Substantial Use of University Resources): use of NYU funding or of grants administered by NYU; use of NYU employees, physicians, consultants, vendors, contractors, students, post-doctoral scholars or fellows; use of NYU intellectual property; use of NYU laboratories or other facilities; or use of NYU research, clinical or other equipment. Use of NYU libraries on a basis similar to scholars who have no association with NYU is not considered Substantial Use of University Resources.
Substantial Use of University Resources means more than incidental use of NYU resources. The following are examples of Substantial Use of University Resources: use of NYU internal funding or use of funding under grants or contracts administered by NYU; use of NYU employees, physicians, consultants, vendors, contractors, students, post-doctoral scholars or fellows; use of intellectual property owned by NYU under this policy, Tangible Research Property or Research Data; use of NYU laboratories or other facilities; or use of NYU research, clinical or other equipment. In addition, any use of third party resources, funding, personnel, data, information, products or materials (in any form) provided or made available to NYU pursuant to an agreement duly entered into or agreed to by NYU is considered Substantial Use of University Resources. Occasional use of NYU’s personal computers and any non-specialized, “shrink-wrap” licensed software ordinarily installed on such computers, NYU’s email systems, NYU’s standard office equipment, or NYU’s office space alone is not considered Substantial Use of University Resources. Use of NYU libraries on a basis similar to use by scholars who have no association with NYU is not considered Substantial Use of University Resources. Use by students of equipment, supplies, or other resources as a part of their uncompensated class work is not considered Substantial Use of University Resources.
Substantial Use of University Resources means the extraordinary provision of resources by the University, which includes, without limitation: release time from regularly assigned duties where the primary purpose of this is the creation of a Work; direct discretionary investment by the University of funds or staff, or the purchase of special equipment for the creation of a Work; extraordinary use of multimedia production personnel and facilities; and, extraordinary use of computing resources. It would not normally include basic salary or the provision of overhead costs associated with the University’s administration of external funds.‌
Substantial Use of University Resources means the use of University- administered funds or the use of facilities, personnel, equipment, materials, or other resources available to the INVENTOR because of the INVENTOR’S affiliation with the University. However, de minimis use of office, library resources, personal computer, and/or software, is not regarded as SUBSTANTIAL USE OF UNIVERSITY RESOURCES. For students enrolled in a course of study, use of course laboratory, computing and library facilities, software, supplies and materials at a level ordinarily provided to students in the course are not considered to be SUBSTANTIAL USE OF UNIVERSITY RESOURCES.
Substantial Use of University Resources means the extensive use of any University-paid time or funding, or the extensive use of facilities, equipment, staff assistance, and/or significant administrative support, including use of dedicated laboratories, dedicated computer centers, and dedicated equipment. By way of elaboration, Substantial Use of University Resources occurs when the creation of the work requires use of University resources beyond those widely available to University personnel and students (including all classes of persons described under Article II of this Policy) in support of their academic work within their respective departments, colleges, academic or administrative units. Widely available resources include the routine use of an assigned/general purpose office and computer, libraries, generally available information resources, photocopiers, local telephone, reasonable office supplies, and limited administrative support or limited use of shared University resources.
Substantial Use of University Resources means the use of ACU’s experimental facilities, laboratories, computational facilities, university-provided or university administered funds, time, space or human resources including their release time from regularly assigned duties during the course of their work.
