Academic Casual Employees. (i) A casual academic employee may be employed for a specific number of hours over a semester or a period of weeks and may agree to equalise salary payments over that period. (ii) Casual academic employees will not be responsible for the employment or supervision of other employees. (iii) Casual academic employees should only be involved in administration to the extent that it is necessary to support their academic responsibilities. A casual academic employee will not be required to be solely responsible for the development of a course (unit) or program of study. However, the employee may be responsible for the coordination of a course (unit) for short periods to cover an unexpected vacancy. (iv) The definitions for casual academic employee classifications, and rates of pay, are contained in Schedule 2 of this Agreement. Conditions relating to marking and assessment performed by a casual academic employee are also contained in Schedule 2. (v) Over the life of this Agreement, the University shall provide casual academic employees, other than those employed on an occasional or ad hoc basis, with adequate and appropriate access to professional development opportunities, access to services, equipment, storage facilities and office space. (vi) A casual academic employee will be paid within twenty-two days of submitting a completed valid claim for payment to the Human Resources Section. (vii) The University will make its best endeavours to ensure casual employment is used as a supplement to and not as a substitute for the creation of continuing and fixed term positions. (viii) Casual academic staff, other than those employed on an occasional or ad hoc basis, shall be entitled to attend Faculty/Departmental meetings (including but not limited to Faculty forums) on the same basis as permanent academic staff. (ix) Casual academic staff, other than those employed on an occasional or ad hoc basis, shall be provided with the following resources and facilities on the same basis as permanent academic staff: (a) library cards; (b) out-of-hours access; (c) telephone access; (d) email accounts; (e) network and intranet access; and (f) inclusion in the University’s telephone book and web directory. (x) Casual academic staff, other than those employed on an occasional or ad hoc basis, shall, unless there is a reasonable basis not to do so in a particular case, be provided with the following resources and facilities for a period up to 3 months after the casual contract ceases...

(j) Unless expressly excluded by agreement between the parties, casual academic staff shall be eligible to apply for any internal funding opportunities, including grants and professional development funds, on the same basis as permanent academic staff. (k) Casual academic staff who are employed to deliver a series of lectures, tutorials or demonstrations amounting to at least one contact hour per week for a complete teaching period, and who have not been employed previously by the Institute on this basis, or ...

  • Casual Employees A casual employee is one who is not regularly scheduled to work other than during periods that such employee shall relieve a regular full-time or regular part-time employee. Casual employees accumulate seniority on an hourly basis and are entitled to such benefits as are contained in the “Addendum - Casual Employees”.

  • Casual Employee Casual employee shall mean an individual who is hired on a job contract or on an hourly basis for unscheduled or irregular work. The only provisions of this Agreement applying to the employment of casual employees are contained in Schedule B.

  • Casual Employment 24.1 A casual Employee is an Employee employed on an occasional basis and whose work pattern is not regular and systematic. When a person is engaged on a casual basis, they will be supplied in writing that the engagement is to be as a casual, the job to be performed, the classification level, the actual or likely length of engagement including number of hours to be worked per week, and the relevant rate of pay. 24.2 A casual Employee shall be entitled to all of the applicable rates and conditions of employment prescribed by this Agreement except annual leave, personal leave, and payment for public holidays on which no work is performed. A casual Employee is entitled to unpaid bereavement leave, domestic violence leave and unpaid career’s leave. 24.3 Except on Saturdays and Sundays, on each occasion a casual Employee is required to attend work, the Employee shall be entitled to payment for a minimum of eight (8) hours work (with 0.8 of an hour on each of these days accruing toward an RDO) plus the relevant fares and travel allowance prescribed by clause 0 below. On Saturdays and Sundays, a casual Employee is entitled to payment for a minimum of four (4) hours, plus the relevant fares and travel allowance prescribed by clause 0 below. 24.4 A casual Employee for working ordinary time shall be paid 125% of the hourly rate prescribed in APPENDIX 1 for the Employee's classification. 24.5 A casual Employee required to work overtime, or weekend work shall be entitled to the relevant penalty rates prescribed in this Agreement: (a) where the relevant penalty rate is time and a half, the Employee shall be paid 175% of the hourly rate prescribed by APPENDIX 1 for the Employee's classification (b) where the relevant penalty rate is double time, the Employee shall be paid 225% of the hourly rate prescribed by APPENDIX 1 for the Employee's classification; and (c) where the relevant penalty is a public holiday, the Employee shall be paid 275% of the hourly rate prescribed by APPENDIX 1 for the Employee's classification. 24.6 For the purposes of clarity, the applicable contributions to BUSSQ, XXXX, CIPQ and BEWT or other funds nominated herein, must be made by the Employer in respect of casual Employees. A casual Employee shall also be entitled to receive, in addition to their casual rate, penalty payments for Overtime, work performed on weekends, work performed on public holidays and RDOs, Domestic Violence leave and unpaid cultural leave. 24.7 Termination of all casual engagements shall require one hour's notice by either the Employer or Employee, or the payment or forfeiture of one hour's pay, as the case may be. This clause will not reduce the entitlements of injured Employees.

Although Authorized Users will not affirm employment for immigration purposes, an Authorized User may be asked to confirm Contractor’s statement of the individual’s employment for immigration purposes. Based on RFQ security requirements the Authorized User may require that all staff must be citizens of the United States, and if so, Authorized User will indicate in the RFQ.

  • Shift Employees Employees who work rotating shift patterns or those who work qualifying shifts shall be entitled, on completion of 12 months employment on shift work, to up to an additional 5 days annual leave, based on the number of qualifying shifts worked. The entitlement will be calculated on the annual leave anniversary date. Qualifying shifts are defined as a shift which involves at least 2 hours work performed outside the hours of 8.00am to 5.00pm, excluding overtime.   • Salaried Employees Employees in this unit who qualify for exemption from the FLSA overtime provisions based upon duties and who are receiving the Project Manager bonus, as provided for in this MOU, shall be treated as salaried employees, in accordance with the provisions of the FLSA as identified in LAAC section 4.113(b). Salaried employees may be assigned 5/40, 4/10 9/80 or other schedules at the discretion of Management. Notwithstanding any LAAC and MOU provisions, or other City department rules and regulations to the contrary, these employees shall not be required to record specific hours of work for compensation purposes, although hours may be recorded for other purposes. These employees will be paid the predetermined salary for each biweekly pay period, as indicated in the appropriate salary appendices, and shall not receive overtime compensation. Salaried employees shall not be subject to deductions from salary or any leave banks for absences from work of less than a full workday. This provision applies to occasional partial day absences from work which are authorized by the appropriate supervisor designated by management. This provision does not apply to long-term or recurring partial day absences (e.g., intermittent leave/reduced work schedule for purposes of Family/Medical Leave). Salaried employees shall not be subject to disciplinary suspension for a period of less than a workweek (seven days; half of the biweekly pay) unless based on violations of a safety rule of major significance. This requirement shall be superseded by the revised Department of Labor FLSA regulations pertaining to disciplinary suspensions of FLSA-exempt employees on the operative date of the FLSA regulations. The appointing authority of each City department may grant time off for hours worked due to unusual situations.
