Criteria for Appointments. 6.02.1 The following criteria shall be considered in making an assessment of candidates for an academic position: (a) academic credentials, including degrees, special studies and honours; (b) potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching at St. Xxxxxx University; (c) scholarly work, including research, publications and work of creative or cultural significance relevant to the area of appointment.

Criteria for Appointments. 3.01 An initial appointment as a librarian requires at least an undergraduate degree from a university of recognized standing and a degree from an accredited school of library, archival or information science, or alternative qualifications accepted by the University for holding a professional position in the Library. It may also require appropriate experience and knowledge of a particular subject. 3.02 Candidates for confirmed appointment are judged on: a) performance in their core assigned responsibilities and b) contributions to the University, to the profession, to scholarship (including the attainment of advanced degrees in librarianship or other pertinent disciplines) and to the community as defined in Articles 4.03 and 4.04 of Part 4: Conditions of Appointment for Faculty. However, such contributions cannot compensate for deficiencies in performance of their core assigned responsibilities. 3.03 Judgments of an individual shall be made objectively. 3.04 Confirmed appointments are granted to individuals who have maintained a high standard of performance in meeting the criteria set out of Article 3.02 (a) and (b) above and show promise of continuing to do so. The decision to grant such an appointment may take into account the interest of the University in maintaining academic strength and balance, but no librarian holding a probationary appointment shall be denied a confirmed appointment on the ground the University has established quotas for those holding confirmed appointments.

Appointment as a program director requires an appropriate university degree and relevant experience. 3.02 Candidates for an initial appointment are judged principally on performance or potential for achievement in professional work in the field of continuing education. 3.03 Candidates for a confirmed appointment are judged principally on performance in their professional work in the field of continuing education. Recognition will also be accorded to their contributions to the University, to their profession, to scholarship, and to the community at large. 3.04 Confirmed appointments are granted to individuals who have maintained a high standard of performance in their professional work and show promise of continuing to do so. Such performance includes their capacity to maintain program standards of high quality, and to develop and maintain public or professional interest. The decision to grant a confirmed appointment will take into account the interest of Continuing Studies and the University in maintaining strength and balance within Continuing Studies and in the University. 3.05 Judgments of an individual should be made objectively.
Criteria for Appointments. In reviewing applications for a course, the Contract Academic Instructor Assessment Committee shall assess applicants for Contract Academic Instructor appointments without Rights of First Refusal status as follows: (a) academic credentials relevant to the course; (b) professional expertise and experience relevant to the course; and (c) teaching competence. In applying these criteria, the Contract Academic Instructor Assessment Committee shall give appropriate weight to each and shall have regard to the principles of non- discrimination and employment equity set out in this collective agreement.

However, such contributions cannot compensate for deficiencies in performance of their core assigned responsibilities. 3.03 Confirmed appointments are granted on the basis of a high standard of performance in meeting the criteria set out in Article 3.02(a), the quality and significance of contributions set out in 3.02(b), and promise of continuing to meet these criteria.
