Eligibility; Use. Regular members on paid status will be credited with and accrue vacation according to the schedule below. Except at the chief’s discretion, members are not eligible to use vacation until the member successfully completes a minimum of six (6) months of continuous service. Members are expected to use their vacation accrual each year.

Sick leave may be taken only for actual illness or disability or medical and dental appointments, of the employee; or illness, disability or death of a member of the employee's immediate family as specified in this article or as permitted by State and Federal law. Every effort will be made to schedule medical and dental appointments outside normal work hours. The employee may use accumulated sick leave in the event of illness or if their presence is required during the illness of a member of the immediate family. Immediate family normally shall be defined as spouse, spousal equivalent, parent, grandparent, child, stepchild, xxxxxx child, grandchild, sibling, parent-in-law, or as permitted by applicable law or city policy. Employees electing to receive benefits under Paid Leave Oregon may utilize paid leave accruals to make up the difference between the Paid Leave Oregon benefit and their regular gross salary. Employees are not required to apply for benefits under Paid Leave Oregon and may elect to utilize their full paid leave benefits without regard to whether the employee has applied for Paid Leave Oregon benefits. Verification of the necessity of absence from work and use of sick leave may be required from the attending physician or other physician designated by the city at the city's expense when the city has reason to believe the employee may be abusing sick leave privileges. Xxxx leave may not be taken until it appears in the employee’s sick leave accrual bank.

An employee using sick leave will not be asked to find their replacement.
