The Employee Safety and Security clause establishes the employer's obligation to provide a safe and secure working environment for all employees. Employee Safety and Security. A. The District acknowledges the impact that serious threats and assault on employees has on the educational process and will follow the student disciplinary process in accordance with District policy and State and Federal law. B. Should an employee be threatened with an assault or be assaulted by a student, parent or other person while on district property or during a school sponsored event, such employee shall report such threat or assault to the employee’s supervisor or designee. Following district policy and procedures the supervisor or designee shall assess the incident and inform the employee what action, if any, has been taken in response to the alleged threat or assault in accordance with State and Federal regulations. C. The District shall report threats and assaults to the authorities as appropriate. Employees are free to exercise their personal legal rights or alternative courses of action concerning threats and assaults. D. Employees are expected to use reasonable measures in situations involving physical threats or abuse. Employees will follow district procedures when necessary to protect themselves or others from physical injury. E. The District shall determine and offer employees with training, support and necessary equipment to ensure the employee’s safety in the workplace.
Employee Safety and Security. 7.1 Employees shall not be expected or required to provide emergency treatment in situations involving weapons until/unless the scene has been secured by police or security personnel.

Any student who commits a serious 617 assault will be immediately suspended or expelled. Repeat offenders may be 618 permanently expelled from the District. Serious assaultive behaviors are defined as 619 either physical assaultive behavior - purposeful assaultive, aggressive behavior, with 620 intent to do serious harm, or verbal assaultive behavior - including, but not limited to, 621 abusive language, racial threat or threat to do physical harm, either student to student 622 or student to staff. See Article IV, Section C, Item 5, regarding Special Education 623 students. 624 625 Employees will not be required to provide emergency treatment unless the area is safe 626 and secure. Employees will not be required to search for explosives/dangerous items. 627 628 Section 9 - Academic Freedom 629 Teachers will be appointed to committees whose purposes shall be to develop courses of study 630 and lists of appropriate instructional materials to be recommended for Board adoption.
