Environment and Natural Resources. 1. The Parties agree that cooperation in this area shall promote the conservation and improvement of the environment in pursuit of sustainable development. The implementation of the outcome of the WSSD and of relevant multilateral environmental agreements to which they are parties shall be taken into account in all activities undertaken by the Parties under this Agreement.
2. The Parties agree on the need to conserve and manage in a sustainable manner natural resources and biological diversity for the benefit of all generations taking into account their developmental needs.
3. The Parties agree to cooperate with a view to enhancing the mutual support for trade and environment policies, and the integration of environmental considerations into all sectors of cooperation.
4. The Parties endeavour to continue and strengthen their cooperation in regional programmes on protection of the environment, as regards:
a) enhancing environmental awareness and local participation in environmental protection and sustainable development efforts, including participation of indigenous cultural communities/indigenous peoples and local communities;
b) capacity-building on climate change adaptation and mitigation and energy efficiency;
c) capacity-building for participating and implementing multilateral environment agreements including but not limited to biodiversity and biosafety;
d) promoting environmentally friendly technologies, products and services, including through the use of regulatory and market-based instruments;
e) improving natural resources including forest governance and combating illegal logging and associated trade, and promoting sustainable natural resources including forest management;
f) effective management of national parks and protected areas and the designation and protection of areas of biodiversity and fragile ecosystems, with due regard for local and indigenous communities living in or near these areas;
g) prevention of illegal transboundary movement of solid and hazardous wastes and other forms of wastes;
h) protection of coastal and marine environment and effective water resources management;
i) protection and conservation of soils and sustainable land management, including rehabilitation of mined-out/abandoned mines
j) promoting capacity building in disaster and risk management;
k) promoting Sustainable Consumption and Production patterns in their economies.

Environment and Natural Resources. 1. Cooperation on environmental protection and sustainable utilisation and management of natural resources shall aim at:
a) mainstreaming environmental sustainability into all aspects of development cooperation and support programmes and projects implemented by the various actors;
b) building and/or strengthening the scientific and technical human and institutional capacity for environmental management for all environmental stakeholders;
c) supporting specific measures and schemes aimed at addressing critical sustainable management issues and also relating to current and future regional and international commitments concerning mineral and natural resources such as:
i) tropical forests, water resources, coastal, marine and fisheries resources, wildlife, soils, biodiversity;
ii) protection of fragile ecosystems (e.g. coral reef);
iii) renewable energy sources notably solar energy and energy efficiency;
iv) sustainable rural and urban development;
v) desertification, drought and deforestation;
vi) developing innovative solutions to urban environmental problems; and
vii) promotion of sustainable tourism.
d) Taking into account issues relating to the transport and disposal of hazardous waste.
2. Cooperation shall also take account of:
a) the vulnerability of small island ACP countries, especially to the threat posed by climate change;
b) the worsening drought and desertification problems especially of least developed and land locked countries; and
c) Institutional development and capacity building

2. The outcome of the World Summit on Sustainable Development as well as the implementation of relevant multilateral environmental agreements applicable to both Parties shall be taken into account in all activities undertaken by the Parties under this Agreement.
3. The Parties endeavour to continue their cooperation in the regional programmes on protection of the environment, specifically as regards:
(a) environmental awareness and law enforcement capacity;
(b) capacity building on climate change and energy efficiency focused on research and development, monitoring and analysis of climate change and greenhouse effects, mitigating and adaptation programs;
(c) capacity building for participating in and implementing multilateral environmental agreements, including biodiversity, biosafety and CITES;
(d) promoting environmental technologies, products and services, including capacity building in environmental management systems and environmental labelling;
(e) prevention of illegal transboundary movement of hazardous substances, hazardous wastes and other forms of waste;
(f) coastal and marine environment, conservation, pollution, and degradation control;
(g) local participation in environmental protection and sustainable development;
(h) soils and land management;
(i) taking measures to counter transboundary haze pollution.
4. The Parties shall encourage mutual access to their programmes in this field, in accordance with the specific terms of such programmes.
Environment and Natural Resources. 1. The Parties agree on the need to conserve and manage in a sustainable manner natural resources and biological diversity as a basis for the development of current and future generations.
2. The implementation of the outcome of the UN Conference on Environment and Development of 1992, the WSSD of 2002 and the UN Conference on Sustainable Development of 2012 shall be taken into account in all activities undertaken by the Parties under this Agreement.
3. The Parties endeavour to continue their cooperation on environmental protection, including through the sharing of best practices in areas such as:
(a) climate change and energy efficiency;
(b) environmental and clean technologies particularly those that are safe and sustainable;
(c) capacity building in negotiating and implementing multilateral environment agreements;
(d) coastal and marine environment;
(e) addressing illegal logging and the associated trade, and promoting sustainable forest management.

b) environmental awareness;
c) participating in and implementing multilateral environmental agreements, including biodiversity, biosafety and the Convention on International Trade in endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora;
d) promoting environmental technologies, products and services, including environmental management systems and environmental labelling;
e) prevention of illegal transboundary movement of hazardous substances, hazardous wastes and other forms of waste;
f) coastal and marine environment, conservation, pollution, and degradation control;
g) local participation in environmental protection as a key element of sustainable development;
h) soils and land management;
i) the exchange of information, expertise and practices.
3. The outcome of the World Summit on Sustainable Development and the implementation of relevant multilateral environmental agreements shall be taken into account, as relevant.
Environment and Natural Resources. 1. The Parties shall work towards preserving, protecting, improving and rehabilitating the environment. To that end, they shall promote measures at national, regional and global level, including in the areas of high biodiversity value and protection of natural ecosystems, air quality, water quality, water scarcity and droughts, waste management, industrial pollution and industrial hazards and chemicals management.
2. The Parties shall support the conservation and sustainable management and use of natural resources, including land, water, forest, biodiversity and ecosystems. They shall promote action to end trafficking of protected species of flora and fauna, and address both demand for, and supply of, illegal wildlife products. They shall promote the sustainable governance of tenure of land, fisheries and forests.
3. The Parties shall promote legal instruments, integrated environment and development strategies, and good governance for the integration of biodiversity considerations in all relevant sectors in order to halt biodiversity loss and maintain the delivery of ecosystem services. The Parties shall promote ecosystem-based approaches and nature-based solutions to achieve environmental objectives. They recognise the importance of ecosystems and biodiversity for addressing climate change and for the conservation and restoration of all ecosystems, including aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems. They shall also establish, manage and improve the governance of protected areas.
4. The Parties recognise that natural ecosystems, in particular forests, offer habitats for animals and plants, and play a major role in mitigating and adapting to climate change, in biodiversity conservation and in preventing and combating desertification and land degradation. The Parties also recognise that forests, wetlands and savannahs provide water and soil protection and protection from natural hazards, and deliver other environmental services. Taking into account the above, the Parties shall promote the conservation and restoration of all ecosystems, including forests.
5. The Parties shall pursue the fight against desertification, land degradation and drought, and shall strive to restore and rehabilitate degraded land and soil to bring about sustainable land management and achieve a land degradation-neutral environment.
