ESL. Non-Credit Language Teachers in the School of Languages and Applied Language Studies (SLALS) (i) Non-Credit Language Teachers teaching English as a Second Language in a classroom program of fifteen (15) contact hours per week or more shall be included in the bargaining unit if they are so employed for ninety-nine (99) hours in any of the three terms. Each Non-Credit Language Teacher shall be provided with a statement of the hours the employee has taught at the end of each teaching period. (ii) Non-Credit Language Teachers shall not be required as part of their normal duties to perform any duties other than those directly related to their teaching assignments. They shall not be required to work in program development, except that such work may be performed as additional duties for a separate stipend. They may teach credit courses, either as part of their regular duties, or as sessional lecturers. Note: it is understood that materials and course development is a normal part of a teaching assignment, and does not constitute program development. They shall not be required to participate in any departmental or faculty committees but shall be notified of departmental board meetings in the same manner as other members of the School and may attend as observers. (iii) A Non-Credit Language Teacher may transfer to Instructor rank when: (1) a suitable vacancy exists; and (2) his/her qualifications are demonstrably comparable to those of the best external applicant who meets the requirements of the position. (iv) In the event of transfer to Instructor rank, consecutive years of service at Carleton University as a Non-Credit Language Teacher shall be used, on a pro-rata basis to determine eligibility for sabbatical. (v) Service as a Non-Credit Language Teacher shall not be considered service as an Instructor for any purpose except as provided in (iv) above.
ESL. 27.01 The Company will provide a facility for ESL (English as a Second Language) classes immediately after working hours.
ESL. Caseloads will be determined and distributed collaboratively among ESL teachers before school begins or as soon as practical based on the school’s receipt of ESL evaluation information. A follow-up meeting will be held within the first month of school and the ESL teachers may advise the administration on revising the caseload based on student needs. The administration will at all times remain the final decision maker on allocation of workload.
ESL. Making satisfactory progress for ESL is based on: i. Attending the assigned class for all of the required class time during the reporting period; and ii. Achieving a minimum of a three (3) point gain on XXXXX tests; or iii. Moving from one National Reporting System (NRS) level to another during the reporting period. • The NRS skills levels for ESL are: Beginning Literacy 0 - 180 Beginning Low/High 181 - 190 Intermediate Low 191 - 200 Intermediate High 201 - 210 Advanced Low 211 - 220 Advanced High 221 - 235 B) XXX: Making satisfactory progress for ABE is based on the following criteria: i. Attending the assigned class for all of the required class time during the reporting period; and ii. Achieving a minimum of three (3) points of growth on the XXXXX reading or math assessment; or iii. Moving from one National Reporting System (NRS) level to another during the reporting period. Beginning Literacy 0 - 200 Beginning Basic 201 - 210 Intermediate Low 211 - 220 Intermediate High 221 - 235 C) Pre-HSE/Pre-High School Diploma: Making satisfactory progress for this class is based on: i. Attending the assigned class for all of the required class time during the reporting period; and ii. Achieving a minimum of three (3) points of growth on the XXXXX assessment; or iii. Advancing from the Pre-HSE/ Pre-high school class to the HSE or High School Diploma program.
