High Quality Instruction. Malaspina University-College is committed to maintaining high quality instruction. It is recognized that faculty involvement in the determination of realistic instructional workloads is important for the maintenance of a high quality of instruction at the University-College, and that excessive workloads shall result in a deterioration of that quality. Several factors must be considered in determining faculty instructional workloads, including but not limited to: number of separate course preparations; type of course; number of students; number of contact hours with students; number and type of assignments; pedagogy and delivery (on-line, face-to-face, team teaching, shared teaching, etc,); program requirements; scholarly activity; nature and extent of non- instructional assignment. Faculty and departments are in the best position to recommend optimal workloads, and so faculty and departments, in consultation with their Xxxx, shall work towards acceptable overall workloads, taking into consideration the factors outlined above for instructional assignments, as well as scholarly activity and service.
High Quality Instruction. In addition to the engaging skills-based, game-like practice activities, Classworks includes rigorous, standards-based Classroom Reading and Math lessons to provide more intensive practice for tier III students. Teachers have real-time insight into students’ work and can provide just-in-time feedback. The lessons include downloadable lesson plan guidance and multi-step support for teachers. The instruction can easily be added to the district’s learning management system such as Canvas and Google Classroom via LTI and return a score to the LMS. Activities can be printed for students with limited device access, making Classworks instruction perfect for continuity of learning in and out of the classroom. Tier One Classroom Reading Instruction: Lexile-leveled reading passages and fluency passages (1-8) Classworks reading instruction includes reading passages and complex texts to support the teacher with teaching reading standards at the reading level of the student. Classroom reading instruction can be used 100% digitally AND provides the ability for teachers to print activities for students, lesson plan guidance, and student supports for each lesson. The reading passages are Lexile-leveled literary passages, including paired passages, that include 60% informational text and literary texts that cover a variety of genres. Each reading activity includes passages and text-dependent questions to support students in actively engaging and interacting with the text. Activities also include a variety of digital tools students can use to support close reading. Questions engage students in analyzing the challenging portions of the text, requiring them to cite evidence, draw conclusions, and identify and evaluate the author’s purpose and reasoning.
