SHARED TEACHING. 27.01 The parties agree to implement job sharing provisions for teachers as outlined in Appendix “B”. 27.02 Any permanent contract teacher shall be free to enter a shared teaching arrangement with any other permanent contract teacher or any other teacher approved by the Director of Human Resources.

SHARED TEACHING. 16.01 A shared teaching position is one which requires the services of a full-time teacher but which is shared between two (2) persons who share the performance and the discharge of the responsibilities of that position on a part-time basis. To be eligible to participate in a shared-teaching position at least one teacher must hold a permanent contract. 16.02 Application to the Centre shall be submitted before April 1st on a form as is jointly approved by the Centre and the Union from time to time (enclosed as Appendix B) and shall include: (a) the proposed teaching schedule; (b) the approval of the school Principal; (c) the approval of the Family of Schools Supervisor. 16.03 Approval for entry into a shared teaching arrangement is at the discretion of the Centre. To continue a shared teaching arrangement beyond a one (1) year period, re-application is required. 16.04 The job sharing agreement is temporary in nature. The teachers participating in the job share arrangement retain their existing contractual status both during the job share and upon its termination. 16.05 Sharing teachers shall receive pro-rated salary for days taught or claimed in accordance with the approved provincial salary scale. Salary payments shall be made on a regular basis for the entire school year on the same schedule as for full-time teachers. 16.06 Permanent contract teachers who are in shared teaching positions shall be provided the opportunity to return to their originating school/administrative unit in accordance with the rights and procedures described in Article 12.08, which shall apply in similar manner. (a) When in-service or parent visitation sessions are held, only the teacher who is regularly scheduled for duty must attend and only that teacher shall be paid. The other teacher is strongly encouraged by both the Centre and the Union to attend. (b) Notwithstanding 16.07 (a), when specifically required by the Principal, both sharing teachers shall attend specific staff meetings and other school scheduled activities, including in-service or parent visitation sessions, at no extra cost to the Centre. SHARED TEACHING. It is agreed that the Okemos Board of Education and the Okemos Education Association support the concept of shared teaching assignments at the elementary/secondary level subject to economic and staffing considerations. Shared teaching assignments shall be subject to the following provisions: A. It is agreed that shared time teachers are subject to the terms of the Master Agreement. B. Shared time teaching shall be defined as two (2) teachers sharing one (1) full-time assignment. C. Agreement to share a full time assignment shall commit the teacher and the Board to not more than one (1) school year. D. For teachers currently job sharing: 1. Shared time teachers shall indicate by March 15 to the Deputy Superintendent their desire to: a. Renew the established job sharing assignments; b. Return to a full-time teaching assignment. 2. Paragraph a) above will be implemented upon mutual agreement of the teachers, principal and Superintendent. E. For teachers wanting to establish a new shared teaching assignment: 1. An individual seeking a shared teaching assignment for the next academic year must submit a letter of interest to the Deputy Superintendent by March 15. The shared teaching assignment shall become final once the other bargaining unit member is identified and upon mutual agreement of the teachers, principal, and Superintendent after completion of a and b, but no later than May 15: a. Schedule the work time; morning/afternoon at the elementary level; class hours at the secondary level. b. Provide a brief description of how the teacher responsibilities are to be shared including: 1) Parent-Teacher conferences 2) Grade/Department meetings 3) Staff meetings
SHARED TEACHING. 19.01 Shared teaching shall include one of the following: 19.01.01 Teaching one semester, full or part-time 19.01.02 Teaching each day but less than a full day (in elementary school, this would be teaching either a.m. or p.m.; in secondary school, this would be teaching less than five (5) assigned instructional hours per day.) 19.01.03 Teaching less than five (5) days per week 19.01.04 Any other less than full-time schedule approved by the Board 19.02 All shared time assignments shall be at the discretion of the Board. 19.03 Scheduling for shared teaching shall be done in a block of time to start with the first class in the morning or afternoon. 19.04 Attendance at staff meetings may be required if meeting time is just prior to or right after the block of teaching time. Teachers who do not attend staff meetings are responsible for finding out what was discussed at meetings. 19.05 Each teacher participating in shared teaching shall be granted a full-year's seniority. Each teacher participating in shared teaching shall be granted a full year's increment for salary advancement and longevity credit.
SHARED TEACHING. ‌ 1. The district recognizes that the use of shared teaching positions can enhance the teaching and learning that occurs in the classroom. In order to assess the request for a shared time teaching position, the teachers applying for approval will provide a written proposal which addresses the value to the students and teachers by the proposed shared time position. The plan should identify the responsibilities of each teacher concerning scheduled events throughout the school year (open house, parent-teacher conference, and professional development). Where building meetings are concerned, the teachers will also outline who will have the responsibility for attending the meeting. That teacher will then share the content of the meeting with the other teacher. Examples of shared teaching are:‌‌ a. Two teachers teaching in the same position for a combination of trimesters.‌ b. Two (2) teachers teaching at least (2) assigned classes per day. The teachers' working day for those sharing a position will be a pro rata portion of seven hours (7) hours and fifteen (15) minutes according to the percentage of the assignment shared at the middle or high school level.‌ c. Two (2) itinerant teachers working at least two (2) days per week.‌ d. Two (2) kindergarten teachers or elementary teachers in grades 1 through 5 working either a.m. or p.m. Teachers who share assignments on a daily basis will be expected to coordinate and plan daily lessons and activities, which may require additional time on the part of the teacher beyond their school day.‌ e. Other allocations of time may be approved by the Executive Director for Human Resources, provided the Association and the teachers involved agree on the allocation.‌ 2. The decision to approve or deny a request to share a position rests solely with the Executive Director for Human Resources. Prior to a decision being rendered, a joint meeting will be scheduled with, at a minimum, the applicant teachers, the principal of the proposed building, and the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources. If the request is denied, the Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources will share the reasons for the denial with the two teachers. If possible, applications for a shared‌ position should be made not less than thirty (30) calendar days prior to the start of the next trimester.‌
SHARED TEACHING. 33.1 Teachers may volunteer for shared-time assignments by making application to the Assistant Superintendent, Human Resources on or before March 1 for the ensuing school year. Teachers requesting and being granted shared-time assignments shall be notified at least thirty- (30-) calendar days before the assignment begins. 33.2 No shared-time assignments shall come into existence without approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee. Once approved by the Superintendent or his/her designee, a shared-time assignment shall not terminate during the school year without the approval of the Superintendent or his/her designee, except in case of resignation or termination of one or both of the teachers sharing the assignment. In case of such resignation or termination, the Superintendent or his/her designee shall have the right, in his/her discretion, to continue the shared-time assignment by offering the vacated portion of the assignment to qualified laid-off teachers in order of seniority, and in absence of success through that method, by hiring a temporary replacement or replacements. 33.3 A shared-time assignment may be continued for an additional school year by agreement between the teachers involved and the superintendent or his/her designee. However, in any case where termination of the assignment at the end of a school year would result in the layoff of a teacher, the Superintendent or his/her designee shall have the right, in his/her discretion, to require that the teachers involved continue in the shared-time assignment for the ensuing school year, except in case of resignation or termination of one or both of said teachers. In case of such resignation or termination, the provisions of the last sentence of paragraph 33.2 above shall be applicable, with the phrase "temporary replacement" construed to include a replacement for all of the ensuing school year. 33.4 The termination of shared-time assignments by the Superintendent or his/her designee shall not be considered an involuntary transfer.
SHARED TEACHING. Teachers who desire to enter into a shared-teaching arrangement, which has been recommended by the building principal, shall submit their written proposal to the Assistant Superintendent of Schools for approval. Each teacher’s salary shall be proportionate to his/her assignment, based on his/her placement on the Salary Schedule. The maximum fringe benefit cost to the Board shall not exceed the greater of the two individual costs had the teachers remained on a full- time assignment. It shall be understood that every elementary vocal music teacher will participate in the All-City Vocal Music Festival without additional compensation. Further, it is understood that it is the responsibility of every elementary vocal music teacher to ensure that every elementary student in grades one through five shall be given at least one (1) opportunity to perform in an organized program during the school year. Programs shall be presented to the general public in the evening. Scheduling of these programs will be coordinated with the building principal. SHARED TEACHING. Any OPEA member in a “Shared Teaching” position as of June 30, 2012, may continue in this position with all the rights and responsibilities provided in Article 30 throughout the remainder of their employment or until such time as they move to a full time position. A request to move into a full time position must be made in writing prior to June 30th of the current school year. No new “Shared Teaching” positions will be offered beginning July 1, 2012. Only those “grandfathered” (as stated above) will be allowed to continue in a “shared teaching” position. 30.1 Shared teaching shall include one of the following: (a) Teaching one semester. (b) Teaching each day but less than a full day (in elementary school, this would be teaching either a.m. or p.m.; in secondary school, this would be teaching less than five (5) assigned instructional hours per day). (c) Teaching less than five (5) days per week. In all cases, final approval is the sole prerogative of the Superintendent and shall not be subject to the grievance procedure. 30.2 Shared time teachers shall be required to attend general staff and department meetings per Article 8, Section 8.14. Teachers teaching one semester shall only be required to attend meetings during that semester. Teachers on shared teaching for an entire year shall attend meetings throughout the year. 30.3 Each teacher participating in shared teaching shall be granted a full year's seniority. 30.4 Each teacher participating in shared teaching shall be granted a full year's increment for salary advancement and longevity credit.
