Employees can accumulate up to 45 days leave but consideration will be given, by mutual agreement, to greater accumulation in anticipation of special personal events such as extended holidays or pending retirement. (For current employees, with existing balances of greater than 45 days, they must reduce their balance to or below 45 days by 1 February 2020. New employees and existing employees with balances below 45 days are subject to the requirements in the above sentence.)

Leave Management and Accumulation. In the first year of employment and in subsequent years managers will accrue annual leave. On a manager's anniversary date each year any unused balance of this leave accrual will become a leave entitlement. Subject to work commitments managers are expected to use their leave entitlement in the following twelve month period. Managers and their supervisors will meet to discuss leave management and scheduling with a view to ensuring the manager has reasonable opportunity to use all their annual and statutory holiday leave entitlements at a time that best suits both Police and the manager. Managers should not accumulate more than 11 alternative days off in lieu of working on a statutory holiday. Where managers have accrued more than 11 alternative days off in lieu of statutory holidays, or have an unused leave entitlement they may be required to use that leave. Before a direction to take leave is issued supervisors will consult with the manager about acceptable timeframes to use the leave. Supervisors may approve the accumulation of leave for specific purposes such as extended holidays or pending retirement.
