Long Term Educational Leave i. is for a non-program required course, program or degree, ii. is for a period of longer than fourteen (14) days, and iii. the entire long term educational leave shall be without pay.
Long Term Educational Leave. Long-Term Educational Leave may be granted at the discretion of the Board, upon request by a teacher not on probation, provided that said leave commences on the first day of a new school term, normally September 1st, without loss of previous service credit.
Long Term Educational Leave. 14.08.01 Educational leave of more than four (4) months to one calendar year shall be considered long-term leave. 14.08.02 In order to be granted long-term leave, an instructor must be a regular instructor with a continuous length of service of forty-eight (48) months or more. 14.08.03 The instructor undertakes to remain in the service of the Institute for a minimum of three (3) years immediately following return from a long- term leave. In the event the instructor fails to remain one (1) complete year he shall refund to the Institute the full amount paid by the Institute to him during the leave; failing to remain two (2) complete years he shall refund two-thirds (2/3) of the amount; failing to remain three (3) complete years he shall refund one-third (1/3) of the amount. 14.08.04 Normally, an instructor shall not be eligible for subsequent long- term educational leave until a period of sixty (60) months has elapsed from the completion of the previous long-term leave. 14.08.05 A request for long-term leave shall be made at least six (6) months prior to the proposed commencement date. An instructor will receive a preliminary reply at least four (4) months prior to the requested commencement date, and final reply at least three (3) months prior.

Long Term Educational Leave. Subdivision 1. Purpose. A leave of absence for not less nor more than one (1) year may be granted a teacher by the School Board, upon the recommendation of the Superintendent, for advanced study, exchange teaching or professional development in the field of education or for a job experience in some other field. This leave is discretionary with the School Board and the School Board reserves the right to withhold such leave if the School Board deems such leave not to be feasible or beneficial to the School District. In the event the request is denied the teacher shall be notified in writing of the reasons.
