18.01 The Employer shall be free to hire the trades tickets it requires. The Employer shall have the discretion to recognize other related work experiences when placing newly hired trades people on the wage scale. No employee or the Union shall have the right to grieve the Employer’s decision in this regard. No employee will lose seniority as a result of taking an approved leave of absence for job improvement.
18.02 Temporary replacements in this department shall be paid according to ability and previous experience based on accumulated time worked within this department.
18.03 The Employer agrees to consider requests for unpaid leaves of absence for employees pursuing Class 3 Power Engineer Trades Course. There shall be no guarantee of ticketed positions upon completion. The maximum number of leaves allowed at any one time shall be: two (2) from Maintenance/Engineers Department, and two (2) from the remainder of the plant. All other requests for leaves of absence for the purpose of work related training shall be considered in accordance with Article 26.02,
