Noise Policy. All activities within the residential community must be conducted in a manner considerate of apartment mates and neighbors. Parties, gatherings, loud music playing, and other activities potentially disturbing to residents must end by 11:00 p.m. (ET) from Sunday–Thursday and 1:00 a.m. (ET) on Fridays and Saturdays. Parties or gatherings may not be conducted in the hallways or any public areas under any circumstances. During daytime hours, noise should be kept to a reasonable level. Twenty-four-hour courtesy hours are always in effect. Two weeks before and during the exam period, all residents must adhere to a 24-hour quiet policy. Late-night complaints, i.e., any that arise outside of Residence Services Office hours (9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. EST), should be given to the Door Attendant on duty. The Door Attendant will assist the complainant or contact the appropriate administrator. Otherwise, noise complaints should be submitted in writing to the Department of Residence Services.

Noise Policy a. During Quiet Hours, I will refrain from making noise that can be heard beyond the boundaries of my Unit or any other space at student housing. This includes, but is not limited to, talking too loudly and playing TVs, radios, stereos, alarms, or computers at high volume. Quiet hours are from 10:00 p.m. to 8:00 a.m. Noise should be kept to a minimum, including washer, dryer, and vacuums. 24-hour quiet hours begin at 6:00 PM the Wednesday before finals week and is in effect until 6:00 PM, Friday of finals week.
b. I will refrain from making excessive noise even outside the designated Quiet Hours.

The resident is prohibited from creating any excessive noise. Noise should not travel outside the confines of the room, suite, or apartment. Reported incidents of excessive noise or repeated incidents will be investigated and acted upon accordingly. Courtesy hours are in effect at all times. The resident must cooperate with reasonable requests to lower the noise level during courtesy hours. Residence hall quiet hours are 10 p.m. - 10 a.m. During these times, the resident is expected to keep the noise level to a minimum so as not to disturb others. The resident should not shout or otherwise create disturbances from or around any residence hall or student window. The resident is prohibited from engaging in sports activity or creating excessive noise within 50 feet of any residence hall. In an effort to provide an environment to conducive for preparing for final exams 24 hour “Quiet Hours” will commence as the following: • Fall Semester- December 15, 2020 starting at 8:00 am and ending at the end of the semester. • Spring Semester- May 12, 2021 starting at 8:00 am and ending at the end of the semester.

Bowie State University does not encourage or support alcohol use on campus. Unauthorized possession, use, or distribution of alcoholic beverages is prohibited by any student or student group on campus or at University sponsored events on and off campus. Any exception to this policy must be authorized by the Vice President of Student Affairs. Under no circumstances is alcohol permitted in any campus residential facility. In accordance with Maryland law, anyone who willfully furnishes any alcoholic beverage to any individual under the age of 21 years can be charged a fine not exceeding $1000 or 60 days’ imprisonment or both. The University does not condone or permit the possession, use, distribution, or sale of any controlled dangerous substance on the campus, the areas surrounding the campus, or at University-sponsored events on and off the campus. The resident found responsible of violating this policy will be subject to disciplinary action which could include sanctions up to and including suspension or expulsion from the University. It is the expectation of Bowie State University that residents, students, faculty, and staff who observe or suspect that a violation of the substance abuse policy is being committed will report it to the appropriate authorities.
