PARAMEDIC CONTINUING EDUCATION. Any employee who is a licensed paramedic may attend continuing education courses on an on- or off-duty basis. Employees who successfully retain their license shall be paid an amount equivalent to the minimum required hours of continuing education as established by the State of California for all hours where attendance was off duty. Employees will also be paid for any off-duty time required to attend any additional training which shall be required by Los Angeles County to maintain accreditation. Compensation will be made in a lump sum payment at the current straight time rate. Such payments shall be made within thirty (30) calendar days of notification by the State of California and/or the County of Los Angeles.

PARAMEDIC CONTINUING EDUCATION. The Department will pay for or provide continuing education for paramedics (48 hours of CE every two years) and state recertification fees, not including penalties or late fees. Each paramedic will receive a minimum payment of 24 hours of overtime for continuing education on July 1 of each year, unless the continuing education is provided by the Department or JPA agreement on duty.

PARAMEDIC CONTINUING EDUCATION. All full-time paramedics and part-time paramedics who demonstrate that they have worked for the Employer a minimum of seven hundred (700) hours in the previous calendar year shall be compensated for a maximum of twenty four (24) Continuing Education hours on the pay day for the first full pay period in July of each year, upon demonstrating that they have completed such Continuing Education hours. Employees who submit verification for fewer than twenty-four (24) hours shall only be paid for the hours for which they submit proof. Employees who complete more than twenty-four (24) Continuing Education hours in a non-certification year may carry such additional hours over to the following year, provided they remain bargaining unit employees. Such hours shall be paid at the employee’s existing, straight-time hourly rate and shall not count as hours worked for any purpose.
PARAMEDIC CONTINUING EDUCATION. All full-time paramedics shall be allowed to attend CE training equal to 24 hours per calendar year with regular pay while off duty. Employer provided CE training shall be given reasonable preference by employees over outside providers where the subject of such training is the same. Payment for CE hours shall not be counted as hours worked for the purposes of calculating overtime.

PARAMEDIC CONTINUING EDUCATION. The Department will provide an in-house continuing education training program, to be completed while on duty, that meets the accreditation requirements of both State Paramedic EMT-P and County of San Mateo licensure. The in-service training program will include at least 48 hours of classroom instruction every two-year cycle and shall include all required courses necessary for license recertification. In the event that the in-service training program is unable to meet the needs of the paramedic, he/she will receive compensation equal to the cost of registration for needed classes and their overtime wage for all time spent attending the classes until the in-service program is able to meet those needs again. If at any time the current in-service CE training program is modified to the extent that the required CE hours and classes cannot be delivered as part of the in-service training, the District shall meet and confer over the impacts with the Union and to develop a plan for the CE training program to be reestablished.
