Salary Rate Upon Promotion. 10.5.1 Upon promotion to a position in a higher job classification an employee will be placed at the lowest step in the higher salary grade that either is the same step held in the former grade or is at a step which is the equivalent of an increase of two (2) steps above the step held in the former grade, whichever is higher.

However, no employee shall exceed the highest salary step in the range appropriate for the classification. Promotions defined: A promotion shall be considered a move from the patrol division to detective, sergeant, lieutenant, or captain. The jail division to detective, sergeant, lieutenant, or captain. Dispatchers from dispatcher to supervisor. Detective division from detective to detective sergeant. A transfer from one classification (i.e. jail to patrol, dispatch to jail, dispatch to patrol) shall not be considered a promotion.
