Sick and Special Leave. Entitlements: Full-time employees will be allowed paid leave up to 10 days in each year of employment for sickness and special circumstances including but not limited to: personal/carers leave, emergency services leave. During the first year of employment, leave entitlement will accumulate at the rate of 1 day for each of the first ten calendar months. Employees will be allowed 2 single sick leave absences in each year of employment where the need to produce a medical certificate is waived. For absences greater than 1 day or after the first two single day absences, or before or after annual leave, a medical certificate must be produced. Unused Sick & Special Leave entitlements will accumulate from year to year for up to 100 days. Notification: The employee will notify the company prior to the commencement time of the day's work of his or her inability to attend for duty due to illness, injury or special circumstances as identified in the above subclause. A company representative must also be informed of the nature and estimated duration of the absence.

Medical Examination: Where the company has reason to doubt the authenticity or accuracy of a medical certificate and the Employee's sick leave continues into the future, the company may require the employee to attend a qualified medical practitioner of the company’s choice. The company will pay the fee of the chosen qualified medical practitioner. The company will rely on the opinion of their chosen qualified medical practitioner to determine whether the Employee is fit for normal duties.
Sick and Special Leave. The entitlement prescribed for sick and special leave in this Agreement shall be proportioned according to the number of days worked each week excepting that the salary payable during the period of sick leave shall be calculated in accordance with sub-clause 5.1 above and be based on the fortnightly salary at the time the leave is taken.

A leave of absence may also be granted for any other reason in which case approval shall not be unreasonably withheld. All requests and approvals for leave shall be in writing. Upon request, the Employer will give reasons orally for withholding approval.

  • Mourner's Leave One (1) day's leave shall be granted without loss of pay or wages to attend a funeral as a pallbearer.
