General Leaves. When no other leaves are available, a leave of absence may be granted to an employee on a paid or unpaid basis at any time upon any terms acceptable to the District and an employee.

An ASF Member may request a leave of absence for valid reasons, including but not limited to the medical necessity of the ASF Member that is not covered by the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA), for an initial period not to exceed two (2) years. A request for leave shall be made as early as practicable and shall include a statement as to the purpose for which the leave is requested, including its value to the ASF Member and the university. The President shall consider the effect of such a leave upon the university, and a request shall not be arbitrarily denied. A general leave of absence beyond two (2) years may be granted at the discretion of the President. However, the ASF Member shall cease to accrue seniority beyond the second year.

The request, where practicable, shall be in writing and in advance of the leave. The request shall be considered on its individual merits and the President or his designate shall make the final decision as to the approval of the general leave. If a unit member is granted such a leave, he/she shall be returned to a position in his/her classification, provided said classification still exists, and also provided the leave has not extended beyond six (6) months.
General Leaves. The Board of Education may grant full-time employees with three (3) or more years of experience a leave of absence for specific reasons. Such leave shall be without pay and benefits, unless otherwise specified. Generally, all requests for leaves shall be made on or before February 1 covering the subsequent school year and shall be made to the Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources. The request must be first approved in advance by the Superintendent or his/her designee before such leave is placed on the Board agenda for approval or disapproval.
General Leaves. Any employee who is tenured in the Brighton Area Schools, may be granted, upon request, a one-semester or one-year leave of absence. The leave will be without compensation and shall terminate at the close of the semester or school year. Upon return from leave the employee will be assigned to an open position they are qualified to teach.
