Use of Sick Leave - Sick Leave may be used as follows. (a) For absence of employee due to personal illness, injury, exposure to contagious diseases which could be communicated to other employees, or for illness in the employee’s immediate family. (b) For absences due to a medical emergency of an immediate family member where-the employee's presence is unavoidably necessary, or for medical, dental, or optical examinations or treatments for the employee or his or her immediate family upon prior approval of his or her immediate supervisor. Additionally, employees shall only use sick leave for the foregoing purposes after providing sufficient proof of the necessity of such use to the Chief of Police or his or her designee, which will be determined in the sole discretion of the Chief of Police or his or her designee. Immediate family is defined as spouse, child, parent, and same residence dependents.

Relationships recognized and for which leave will be granted: father, mother, wife, husband, parent-in-law, step-parent, child, step-child, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, grandparent, grandparent-in-law, xxxxxxxxxx, half-brother, half- sister, brother-in-law, or sister-in-law. Other relatives living in the same household shall be considered as family. Absence due to such situation shall not exceed three (3) days. Upon approval of the Chief of Police or his designee, bereavement leave in excess of three (3) days for out-of-state deaths may also be charged to the accrued sick time. (d) Where injury leave has expired and the employee must be absent from work for an additional period due to injury. The Township reserves the right to take disciplinary action up to and including discharge against any employee who is guilty of submitting a false claim, or for working for another employer while on sick leave and is physically capable of performing his or her assigned duties.

  • Use of Sick Leave Sick leave is available the first day of the pay period following the pay period in which it was earned, and is taken in units of one-tenth (1/10) of one hour. Use of sick leave is subject to the approval of the appointing authority. Upon request of an employee, the appointing authority may allow the substitution of three (3) or more days of sick leave for paid vacation, provided the employee furnishes a doctor's statement or other satisfactory evidence that the employee was ill or injured for three (3) or more consecutive days.

  • Abuse of Sick Leave Misuse of leave, violation of orders, directives, or contractual requirements concerning the use of sick leave and other forms of leave used in lieu of sick leave are cause for disciplinary action.

  • Accrual of Sick Leave a. A full-time employee shall accrue four (4) hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period, or the number of hours that are directly proportionate to the number of days worked during less than a full-pay period, without limitation as to the total number of hours that may be accrued. b. A part-time employee shall accrue sick leave at a rate directly proportionate to the percent of time employed. c. An employee appointed under Other Personal Services (OPS) shall not accrue sick leave.

  • Accumulation of Sick Leave The unused portion of an Employee's sick leave shall accrue for her future benefit, up to a maximum of one hundred and thirty (130) days.

  • Sick Leave Defined Sick Leave means the period of time an employee is permitted to be absent from work with full pay by virtue of being sick or disabled, exposed to contagious disease, or because of an accident for which compensation is not payable under the Workers' Compensation Act.

  • Approved Leave of Absence With Pay During Vacation When an employee is qualified for bereavement leave, sick leave or any other approved leave with pay during her vacation period, there shall be no deduction from the vacation credits for such leave. In the case of sick leave, this section shall only apply when the period of illness or injury is in excess of two (2) days and a note from a physician may be required. The period of vacation so displaced shall be taken at a mutually agreed time. An employee intending to claim displaced vacation leave must advise the Employer and provide necessary documentation within seven (7) days of returning to work.

  • Portability of Sick Leave 1. The employer will accept up to sixty (60) accumulated sick leave days from other school districts in British Columbia, for employees hired to or on exchange in the district. 2. An employee hired to or on exchange in the district shall accumulate and utilize sick leave credit according to the provisions of the Collective Agreement as it applies in that district.

  • Unused Sick Leave The accrual of unused sick leave hours is unlimited. The City and the Union commit to the evaluation and establishment of a mutually beneficial non-use of sick leave incentive and pay-out policy. Until such time that a policy is established, accumulated sick leave shall be compensated as follows: Upon retirement from the City service, an employee shall be paid sixty percent (60%) of his accumulated sick leave, with the rate of payment based upon his regular pay at the time he retires. Upon the death of an employee, his beneficiary shall be paid sixty percent (60%) of his accumulated unused sick leave, with the payment based upon his regular pay at the date of his death.

  • Extension of Sick Leave Unless an employee otherwise requests in writing, an employee who has used up her sick leave credits shall be granted advanced sick leave with pay for a period up to fifteen (15) days subject to the deduction of such advanced leave from any sick leave credits subsequently earned.
