Utilization of Cars. (a) Nurses are required to use their own vehicle to discharge their duties and the Employer shall not be required to provide vehicles to nurses for the purpose of discharging their duties.
(b) When a nurse drives a personally owned vehicle and is on duty at the request and approval of the Branch, mileage and travel will be paid from the first visit of the assignment to the last visit, or, if the first visit is more than fifteen (15) kilometres from the home/office, mileage and travel time will be paid from and returning to that point thereafter. Nurses in the Visiting Nursing Program who are required to use their own vehicle shall be paid at thirty-eight cents ($0.38) per kilometre.

b) When a nurse drives a personally owned vehicle at the request and approval of the employer, payment will be made for mileage commencing from the first clients’ home/clinic and terminating at the home of the last client/clinic. Where the distance to the first or last client/clinic is greater than 25 kilometers from the employees home the mileage allowance shall be calculated from the 00 xxxxxxxxx xxxxx. With the approval of the manager, payment for mileage may commence or terminate at the office.
c) Effective at ratification employees will be reimbursed at a minimum of forty-five cents (45¢) per kilometer. The Employer will conduct an annual review of the kilometer rate reimbursement and may adjust the rate effective April 1 each year.”

In lieu of mileage payment, nurses assigned to work clinics will be paid a premium of one dollar ($1.00) per hour worked at such clinics.
c. Effective the date of ratification of this Agreement, Nurses who are required to use their own vehicle shall be paid at thirty-seven cents ($0.37) per kilometre. Effective April 1, 2010 this will increase thirty-eight ($0.38).

If a nurse’s first visit is more than forty (40) kilometers from the nurse’s home or from the branch office (whichever is closest to the client) payment for mileage will commence and terminate at the forty kilometer point. Effective the beginning of the first full pay period following ratification, nurses in the Visiting Nursing Program who are required to use their own vehicle shall be paid a mileage allowance at a rate of thirty eight cents ($0.38) per kilometer.

Employees are paid kilometers in excess of twenty five (25) kms when driving from their home to a client or the office or when leaving the office or last client to their home. An employee who resides outside the City of Ottawa may claim kilometers from the City of Ottawa boundary, when kilometers exceed twenty five (25) kms when travelling to or from a client or the office. An employee who has requested to work in a specific district which exceeds the twenty five (25) kms from their home will be paid kilometers for travel from the boundary of the requested district. Employees will be reimbursed at a minimum of $0.47 cents per kilometer at the corporate rate. The employer will conduct an annual review of the kilometer rate reimbursement each fiscal year and may increase the rate. The Employer recognizes that employees exercise judgment for the efficient scheduling of client visits. Subject to driving conditions employees will select driving routes that provide for the safe and efficient use of time and resources.

If an employee’s first visit is more than thirty (30) kilometers from the employee’s home, payment for mileage will commence and terminate at that thirty (30) kilometer point. Employees required to make a single visit that is not part of their regular schedule, will be compensated at the appropriate mileage rate for any kilometers travelled form the employee’s home to the clients home and return.

It is understood that whenever the Branch policy increases the rate, it is incorporated in the Collective Agreement..
(a) The use of cars owned by the Employer shall be at all times pursuant to the direction of the Employer and shall not be for the personal use of the nurse. Such cars may not be at any time removed from the area in which the Employer furnishes nursing services with the prior permission of the Employer.
(b) The Employer shall maintain the car and assume all costs of transportation of a nurse while on duty. The nurse whose charge the car may be shall report to the Employer any defect or unfitness in the car which may become know to her. She shall then arrange to have the approved repair and maintenance work completed as required and she shall be compensated at her regular hourly rate for all the time spent attending such improvements in addition to any expenses incurred.

If during the term of this Collective Agreement the Employer provides an automobile mileage allowance to Registered Nurses (RN‟s) employed by the Site that is greater than the mileage allowance provided to RPN‟s, this allowance will increase by the same amount and at the same time as the mileage allowance for RN‟s.
