Deafness. A definite diagnosis of the total and irreversible loss of hearing in both ears, with an auditory threshold of 90 decibels or greater within the speech threshold of 500 to 3,000 hertz. A definite diagnosis of death of heart muscle due to obstruction of blood flow, that results in a rise and fall of cardiac biomarkers to levels considered diagnostic of acute myocardial infarction, with at least one of the following: • heart attack symptoms; • new electrocardiographic (ECG) changes consistent with a heart attack; or • development of new pathological Q waves on ECG following an intra-arterial cardiac procedure including, but not limited to, coronary angiography and/or angioplasty.

I. Total and irrecoverable loss of the ability to speak as a result of injury or disease to the vocal cords. The inability to speak must be established for a continuous period of 12 months. This diagnosis must be supported by medical evidence furnished by an Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist.
II. All psychiatric related causes are excluded.

Loss of Limbs The physical separation of two or more limbs, at or above the wrist or ankle level limbs as a result of injury or disease. This will include medically necessary amputation necessitated by injury or disease. The directly or indirectly from self-inflicted injury, alcohol or drug abuse is excluded. Loss of Speech Total and irrecoverable loss of the ability to speak as a result of injury or disease to the vocal cords. The inability to speak must be established for a continuous period of 12 months. This diagnosis must be supported by medical evidence furnished by and Ear, Nose, Throat (ENT) specialist. Aplastic Anaemia Chronic persistent bone marrow failure which results in anaemia, neutropenia and thrombocytopenia requiring treatment with at least one of the following: Blood product transfusion; Marrow stimulating agents; Immunosuppressive agents; or Bone marrow transplantation. The diagnosis must be confirmed by a haematologist using relevant laboratory investigations including Bone Marrow Biopsy resulting in bone marrow cellularity of less than 25% which is evidenced by any two of the following: Absolute neutrophil count of 500/mm³ or less Platelets count less than 20,000/mm³ or less Absolute Reticulocyte count of 20,000/mm³ or less Temporary or reversible Aplastic Anaemia is excluded. In this condition, the bone marrow fails to produce sufficient blood cells or clotting agents. End Stage Liver Failure Permanent and irreversible failure of liver function that has resulted in all three of the following: Permanent jaundice; and Ascites; and Hepatic encephalopathy. Liver failure secondary to alcohol or drug abuse is excluded.
