Substituting for Teachers. Whenever a bargaining unit member substitutes for a certified teacher, he/she shall be compensated at one-and-a-half (1 ½) his/her normal rate. If the substitution is for a teacher who normally has a paraprofessional, and the paraprofessional is unavailable, then the rate shall be two (2) times the employee’s normal rate.
Substituting for Teachers. Except for paraeducator positions specifically designed to substitute or fill-in for a variety of positions, paraeducators that are assigned by the Principal to substitute for a teacher in the classroom shall be paid the following on top of their regular hourly rate: A. $15.00: 0.50 to 1.0 hours B. $30.00: 1.25 to 2.5 hours C. $45.00: 2.75 or more hours
Substituting for Teachers. In the event an employee feels s/he has been improperly asked to substitute for a classroom teacher, that employee has the right to immediately contact and notify a school administrator and/or his/her immediate supervisor of the situation. If a bargaining unit member possesses teacher certification or qualifications to be a substitute teacher and subs for one hour or more, s/he shall receive the substitute teacher pay.
Substituting for Teachers. A. Eligible and qualified bargaining unit members may be directed by the administration to secure substitute teaching certification. The Board will pay the cost of registering with the State of Michigan. Bargaining unit members may, in an emergency situation, be assigned to teaching responsibilities.
Substituting for Teachers. The Building Principal has the discretion to assign Paraprofessionals to substitute for a classroom teacher. If such assignment extends the member’s day, then he/she shall be compensated at the higher of either the hourly rate for substitute teachers or the member’s hourly rate. After substituting for thirty (30) or more consecutive school days in the same teaching assignment, during any one school year, the Paraprofessional shall be paid according to the teachers’ wage scale at Bachelor’s Degree, Step 1.
Substituting for Teachers. Any Instructional Assistant who is authorized by a principal to substitute for a teacher shall receive $10.00 for substituting a total of at least two (2) hours or up to three (3) hours and $20.00 for substitute service in excess of three (3) hours on a given day. Any Instructional Assistant that does substitute duty shall be allowed adequate time to complete unfinished work result- ing from absence from their regular assignment due to substituting. This provision shall not result in overtime unless otherwise dictated to meet an operational need. Principals shall assign Instructional Assistants substitute responsibilities based upon instructional needs, including special education needs. All instructional as- sistants shall be considered for substitute service. Instructional Assistants shall only be requested to substitute for teachers or for another Instructional Assistant. Instructional Assistants used as substitutes must be reported on the personnel leave report as substitutes for the purpose of accountability.
Substituting for Teachers. The administration may utilize building assistants to substitute for teachers, if no regular substitutes are available or in the case of an emergency. The employee would need to meet the State of Michigan substitute teacher requirements.
Substituting for Teachers. If a teacher is absent, every reasonable effort will be made to provide a substitute teacher so as not to cause loss of planning time. If a full day substitute teacher cannot be obtained, teachers who cover classes or absorb another teacher’s class, or part of their class, into their own class, will receive compensation for the loss of planning time and additional student responsibilities. Compensation is determined by dividing the class coverage rate of pay by seven (7) or by dividing the class coverage rate proportionately among all teachers involved in taking extra duties to cover the absent teacher’s assignment, whichever is greater. The class coverage compensation shall be calculated as (BA Step 0/184) /7. The Administration and Association agree to cooperate in recruiting substitute teachers so that an adequate substitute list will be made available for call when needed.
Substituting for Teachers. The Board will not utilize building assistants to substitute for teachers.
