Instructional Assistants. Media Center Assistants, and School-Year Secretaries shall receive pay equal to their regular scheduled hours for school closings caused by acts of God or other unplanned closures such as bomb threats, boiler malfunctions or loss of electricity, provided the District is paid for the day or part of the day by the State. In the event an employee is on paid leave, sick leave or bereavement leave during part or all of the school closure days as defined in this section, then the pay for the school closure time and that time on leave will not be charged against the employee’s paid leave time.

If a class size number includes a/n student(s) who is/are considered a SPED student(s) and has a designated paraprofessional(s) for the said student(s), the student(s) will not count in the class size numbers listed above.

Instructional Assistants. Seven (7) Hours per Day for Full-time Instructional Assistants and Three and One-Half (31/2) Hours per Day for Part-time Instructional Assistants as scheduled. Absent a written agreement with the Association, the Board will only employ one Part-time Instructional Assistant outside of the Preschool if it is necessary to implement a student’s IEP (e.g., if the student is only attending school in the District on a part-time basis, or is in the process of transitioning back to school in the District).
Instructional Assistants. Instructional Assistants shall normally be classified as 10‐month employees. However, their work schedule may vary based on factors that include but are not limited to program design, track assignment of partner teacher, grade level, special student needs, etc. The work year will normally be 181 days. If the program extends into any Intersession or Summer School, the incumbent shall have the first opportunity for any additional hours. All other additional hours shall be offered by seniority. Instructional Assistants shall have the opportunity to request particular track assignments. Depending upon the needs of the district and the specific program adopted at the site, instructional assistants may be placed on different calendars as outlined in the calendars section above. Instructional assistants not satisfied with their calendar or track assignment may opt for the ‘one time transfer’ alternative specified above.
