Instructional Assistants. Media Center Assistants, and School-Year Secretaries shall receive pay equal to their regular scheduled hours for school closings caused by acts of God or other unplanned closures such as bomb threats, boiler malfunctions or loss of electricity, provided the District is paid for the day or part of the day by the State. In the event an employee is on paid leave, sick leave or bereavement leave during part or all of the school closure days as defined in this section, then the pay for the school closure time and that time on leave will not be charged against the employee’s paid leave time.
Instructional Assistants. (Employed under O.R.C. 3319.088).
A. One week after the Instructional Assistant Job Fair, the Director, Classified Personnel shall prepare a list of all known vacancies in instructional assistants’ positions for the following year. Copies of this list will be posted in each school.
B. Instructional assistants to be considered for such vacancies shall apply to the Administrator announced on the posting.
C. The Board shall consider job classification seniority as one of the determining factors in selecting among the applicants whose qualifications are relatively equal.
D. Instructional assistants shall be notified of their school assignment for the next school year no later than their last assigned work day in June. Such notification shall not be a guarantee of re- employment for the following school year if layoff is in accordance with law or this Agreement. An instructional assistant may only be removed for cause or laid off for lack of work, lack of funds, or abolishment of position. If not laid off, all instructional assistants shall be given the option to retain their current assignment each school year if the instructional assistant receives a satisfactory evaluation. The evaluation shall be conducted no later than May 1. The Board will notify an Instructional Assistant who is not to return the next school year as soon as possible. If it becomes necessary to lay off instructional assistants, the instructional assistant with the least system seniority in the particular grouping of instructional assistants, in a given building or program, will be laid off. An instructional assistant laid off (originally or a result of a bump) will have an opportunity to bump an instructional assistant in the same grouping who has less system seniority. The layoff should be accomplished using a “paper layoff’ in order to minimize disruption in accordance with procedures agreed upon by the Board and Union. Displaced persons must bump to the position that will provide the minimum disruption (first to a vacancy and then to the least senior to be bumped within the job grouping). If the laid off employee has no opportunity to a bump to a position within the employee’s job grouping, the laid off employee shall be able to bump first to a vacancy, then the least senior employee in any job grouping within the family in which the laid off employee’s grouping is located, and then to a job grouping the employee previously was employed in a different job family within the provided the...
Instructional Assistants. A substitute Instructional Assistant will be requested beginning with the first day the Instructional Assistant is absent due to illness.
Instructional Assistants. Full-time - 6 or more hours per day (5 days per week) Part-time - Less than 6 hours per day OR fewer than 5 days/week
Instructional Assistants. 1. The normal daily work hours for an instructional assistant will be six (6) hours.
2. Instructional assistants who work more than five (5) hours per day will be given a non-paid thirty (30) minute duty free lunch period.
3. Instructional assistants who work four (4) or more hours shall be given a fifteen (15) minute break as part of their workday. This fifteen (15) minute break shall not be scheduled as the first fifteen (l5) minutes nor the last fifteen (15) minutes of the workday.
Instructional Assistants. 23.2.1 Whenever possible, unit members shall be given opportunity to participate in the interview process for instructional assistants.
23.2.2 The unit member serves as classroom manager in the instructional assistant relationship and in this capacity, delineates the classroom duties of the instructional assistant.
23.2.3 The unit member will provide input to the supervising principal regarding the instructional assistant's performance of classroom duties using the appropriate form located on the SCOE website under Human Resources and Services forms in conjunction with conversations with the supervisor. Unit member input will not constitute the sole basis of the instructional assistant's evaluation.
23.2.4 The unit member input form will be submitted no later than January 1 to allow the evaluating supervisor time to observe and, if necessary develop support for the instructional assistant and/or the unit member.
23.2.5 When a concern arises regarding the instructional assistant's performance, the unit member is entitled to a meeting with the supervising principal and the instructional assistant to address the concern and to reach a satisfactory resolution.
23.2.6 Should the unit member, principal and instructional assistant be unable to reach a satisfactory conclusion, the matter will be discussed with the director of the appropriate program, who will make a decision.
23.2.7 Should any of the parties involved disagree with the decision, they may submit a written statement to that effect to the Superintendent for a final decision.
23.2.8 When requested, the will receive training to assist the unit members in the supervisory role in working with instructional assistants.
Instructional Assistants. If a kindergarten class size is twenty-five (25) or more students, then a two (2) hour instructional assistant will be assigned to that class daily. If a kindergarten class size is twenty-eight (28) or more students, then a five (5) hour instructional assistant will be assigned to that class daily. If an elementary classroom in Grade 1, Grade 2 or Grade 3 is twenty-five (25) or more students, a two (2) hour instruction assistant will be assigned to that class daily. If an elementary classroom in Grade 4 or Grade 5 exceeds thirty (30) students, then a two (2) hour instructional assistant will be assigned to that class daily. The second (2nd) Monday in September will be used as the official class size number. If the position is posted by the Board, the Board will continue to post the position until qualified candidates are hired. If a class size number includes a/n student(s) who is/are considered a SPED student(s) and has a designated paraprofessional(s) for the said student(s), the student(s) will not count in the class size numbers listed above.
Instructional Assistants. 1. During the course of this agreement the instructional assistants work year shall be 182 days.
a. The assistants work year may be increased up to three (3) full days with full pay for in- service to be used at the Board’s discretion. This shall be reflected on the September calendar. Notice of such days shall be included in the summer mailing. Any changes shall be done thirty (30) days prior to the change. These days shall be paid at the regular daily rate and will be pensionable. Any changes shall be done thirty (30) days prior to the change with official notification in writing to said employees. Email will satisfy as written notification.
2. The work day shall be the same length as the teachers’ day (6.33 hrs . excluding lunch as current), unless students IEP require a modification. All instructional assistants will be paid on a salary guide which will be based on the work day reflected above. Time beyond that will be compensated at their hourly rate of pay.
3. Every instructional aide shall have the same length lunch as the teachers in their respective building.
4. Non-certified assistants shall not be required to cover classes.
5. All full-time (greater than six hours) instructional assistants shall receive a fifteen (15) minute break per day.
6. On early dismissal days, assistants may leave early on days preceding a holiday. On conference days and open house, the instructional assistants will work a full day or work until early dismissal and then return for the evening session. This will be determined by the building principal and must be communicated at least five (5) days in advance of the evening session. The students’ last two days the assistants may leave early. Early is defined as 15 minutes after the student day ends.
Instructional Assistants. 1. The normal work year for instructional assistants will be 182 days for the duration of this Agreement.
2. Any instructional assistant contracted to work less than or more than the normal work year shall be paid the proportionate share of the normal annual salary.
Instructional Assistants. At the beginning of each work year, each instructional assistant shall be credited with the appropriate amount of sick days according to the following schedule: Years of Service to the District 0-10 years 12 sick days 11+ 15 sick days The unused portion of which shall accumulate from year-to-year without limitation. The Administration shall furnish each employee with a written statement at the beginning of each semester setting forth the total accumulated sick leave credit for said employee.
