Suitable Alternative Employment. The Board and the Union shall agree on policies and procedures for providing Teachers who have been injured or disabled, including Teachers who have been in receipt of Workplace Safety and Insurance benefits, with suitable alternative employment where they are unable to carry out the normal duties of their previous assignment.

"Suitable alternative employment", for the purposes of paragraph 8, should be determined by reference to sections 82(3) and 82(5) of the Employment Protection (Consolidation) Act 1978. In considering whether a post is suitable alternative employment, regard should be had to the personal circumstances of the employee. Employees will, however, be expected to show some flexibility by adapting their domestic arrangements where possible.

The affected employee(s) will not unreasonably refuse to accept suitable alternative employment with the Company if such employment is offered as an alternative to redundancy. The following considerations will apply: • Remuneration/rate of pay: A comparable role may include a role that is remunerated to the same or a different value or has a change in the rate of pay. • Reporting Lines / Level Of Responsibility: A comparable role may involve a role with changed reporting requirements, a change in the role title and a change in the status of the role. • Duties: A new role will be comparable if the duties are broadly similar to those of the existing role and are within the range of duties for which the employee has the necessary competencies or would have the necessary skills and competencies with a reasonable amount of training. • Location: Where a change of location is required, a comparable position includes a role in the same city as the existing role. If relocation to another city is required, and this is not acceptable to the employee, then the role will not be a comparable or similar position.
Suitable Alternative Employment. The Company shall not be obliged to make a severance payment if the company obtains suitable alternative employment for the employee, and the employee unreasonably rejects that offer of employment. The company will calculate the severance payment at your ordinary rate of pay. The amount of severance pay shall not exceed the amount which the employee would have earned if employment with the company had proceeded to the employee's normal retirement date.
