Teaching Load/Assignment. 6.1. Principals have the right to assign unit members as necessary to develop the master schedule. In addition, the following provisions shall apply. 6.1.1. The District and DTA have a shared interest in defining a transparent process to assign unit members instructional classes and schedules. 6.1.2. Site administrators will work collaboratively with department chairs to develop schedules that make every effort to meet the needs of students. 6.1.3. All tentative teaching assignments for the next school year will be made and communicated to unit members prior to the end of the current school year. Any changes made after the close of the current school year will be communicated to affected unit members as soon as possible. 6.1.4. The process to design the master schedule and assign unit members will include the following steps: 6.1.4.1. Unit members will have the opportunity to submit requests in writing to department chairs for courses and preferred schedule(s) during the spring semester. 6.1.4.2. Department chairs will make recommendations to site administrators based on input from department members. 6.1.4.3. Seventh period assignments should be distributed among those who volunteer for a seventh period, whenever possible, so long as such assignment does not interfere with other school programs or activities. If there are no volunteers for a given subject, the District has the right to assign members to teach a 7th period. 6.1.4.4. Unit members who disagree with their tentative assignment may request reconsideration by the site principal, whose decision shall be final. 6.1.4.5. The parties share a mutual goal in limiting the number of course preparations for any one teacher during each academic year. 6.1.4.6. Combined, multilevel courses taught during one (1) period are considered to be one prep. 6.1.5. As of the 2022-2023 school year, classes will begin no earlier than 8:30 AM and end no later than 3:45 PM at Saratoga High School and 3:55 PM at Los Gatos High School. Schools will follow any statewide mandate for start/end times. The daily school bell schedules for each site (which may differ) shall be developed by a committee that includes members of the bargaining unit, and shall be adopted by the District following collaboration with each site’s staff to reflect the best interests of students at each site. 6.1.6. The principals shall seek staff requests for early or late assignments and will honor those requests whenever possible. In addition, the following provisions shall apply: (a) Classes will begin no earlier than 7:30 A.M. and end no later than 3:45 P.M. (b) Class load shall be the equivalent of five (5) teaching periods plus one (1) prep period. Preparation periods are designated for preparation, planning, conferring with students, parents and other occasional activities designated by the site principal. (c) Assignment of instructional periods will be a collaborative effort among administration and unit members, making unit members’ preferences a priority as well as student requests. 6.2 For alternative program teachers, the number of teaching and other duty assignments may vary and shall be determined by the building principal. 6.3 Teachers assigned at both sites who are required to travel between the comprehensive high schools on an instructional day will be compensated for such travel according to the Extra Pay Schedule (Appendix C), Category B, Step 2 for each full semester of travel, and will receive one-way mileage expenses (rate to be according to current mileage reimbursement in the District). This amount will be pro-rated for those not required to travel every day. Effort will be made to avoid assignments requiring travel between sites. 6.4 In the event it becomes necessary, the building principal or designee may excuse a member of the unit from completing his or her daily assignment.

  • TEACHING LOADS AND ASSIGNMENTS A. Should teacher absences necessitate using teachers on preparation periods as substitutes because no eligible substitutes are available, said teacher giving up his/her preparation period shall be paid at the rate listed is Schedule B for each prep period given up to substitute. Every effort will be made to share the assignments equally. When absences of fifty percent (50%) or more of the day occur, the Administration will call for an eligible substitute. B. Teachers shall be informed of the final assignments and classrooms no later than August 1 unless an unforeseen or emergency situation arises. Should a situation arise, Administration shall notify the Association of the reasons. D. The staff will be surveyed prior to the end of each school year to determine teaching preference for the next school term. E Because the Board of Education has the statutory duty to educate all children within the boundaries of the school district and those participating in schools of choice, and because the student/teacher ratio is an important aspect of the educational program, and because the number of students the teacher is required to instruct has a direct bearing upon the amount of work required of the individual teacher, the parties agree the size of the individual classes shall be given careful consideration to balance them by the administration. Upon the request of the teacher or association, if educationally appropriate, or economically feasible all options not limited to: balancing class loads, hiring a paraprofessional, or not being able to do anything will be considered. Discussion on whether to do so will be done by the 4th Wednesday count day.

  • Teaching Assignments No employee shall be assigned to teach in a grade level and/or subject area not within the scope of his/her teaching certificate, except where a position within his/her certification is unavailable or when mutually agreed to by the affected employee and principal, or when determined necessary by the principal. Employees assigned to positions outside the scope of their certificates shall be assigned as soon as possible to positions for which they hold certification.

  • Shift Assignment Should the University elect to establish a shift on any other schedule than the regular day shift (Monday through Friday) or to assign employees to work on any such shift, the employee(s) with the most seniority in the classification affected or to be assigned on such shift shall have preference in moving to such shift. If an insufficient number of employees in the classification elect to move to such shift, then the employee(s) with the least seniority in the classification shall be assigned to such shift. If positions or shifts are reduced or eliminated or movement of personnel to other shifts is required, then the seniority of the affected employee will prevail in the selection of shift, provided the affected employee can do the required work. Such shift preference is only applicable within the employee's classification.

  • Benefit; Assignment Subject to provisions herein to the contrary, this Agreement shall inure to the benefit of and be binding upon the parties hereto and their respective legal representatives, successors and assigns. No party may assign this Agreement without the prior written consent of the other party; provided, however, that a party hereto may assign its interest (or a portion thereof) in this Agreement to an Affiliate, but, in such event, the assignor shall be required to remain obligated hereunder in the same manner as if such assignment had not been effected.

  • Subcontracting and Assignment The School Bus Operator shall not sub-contract, transfer or assign this Contract or any part of this Parent Agreement without the prior written consent of the School. The School Bus Operator shall be responsible for the acts, defaults, neglects or omissions of any assignee or subcontractor, their agents, servants or workmen as fully as if they were the acts, defaults, neglects or omissions of the School Bus Operator.

  • Overtime Assignment A. In institutional settings when the Agency determines that overtime is necessary, overtime shall be offered on a rotating basis, to the qualified employees who usually work the shift where the opportunity occurs. If no qualified employees on the shift desire to work the overtime, it will be offered on a rotating basis first to the qualified employee with the most state seniority at the work site. When there are no volunteers to work the overtime as outlined above, and/or where an emergency exists, reasonable overtime hours may be required by the Agency. Such overtime shall be assigned, on a rotating basis, first to the qualified employee with the least state seniority at the work site. This policy shall not apply to overtime work which is specific to a particular employee’s claim load or specialized work assignment or when the incumbent is required to finish a work assignment. B. In non-institutional settings, the Agency reserves the right to schedule and approve overtime. In emergency situations overtime may be approved after the fact. Required overtime that can be worked by more than one (1) employee at the work site (that which is not specific to the particular employee’s case load or specialized work assignment) will be offered on a rotating, state seniority basis. If no qualified employee volunteers for the work, or where an emergency exists, then the qualified employee with the least state seniority at the work site will be assigned on a rotating basis. C. The parties recognize that in both institutional and non-institutional settings, that the Employer has the right to require mandatory overtime where necessary; however, the Employer will not abuse the utilization of mandatory overtime.

  • SUB-CONTRACTING AND ASSIGNMENT 18.1 Subject to clause 18.3, neither party shall assign, novate, subcontract or otherwise dispose of any or all of its rights and obligations under this agreement without the prior written consent of the other party, neither may the Supplier sub-contract the whole or any part of its obligations under this agreement except with the express prior written consent of the Authority, such consent not to be unreasonably withheld. 18.2 In the event that the Supplier enters into any Sub-Contract in connection with this agreement it shall: (a) remain responsible to the Authority for the performance of its obligations under the agreement notwithstanding the appointment of any Sub-Contractor and be responsible for the acts omissions and neglects of its Sub-Contractors; (b) impose obligations on its Sub-Contractor in the same terms as those imposed on it pursuant to this agreement and shall procure that the Sub-Contractor complies with such terms; and (c) provide a copy, at no charge to the Authority, of any such Sub-Contract on receipt of a request for such by the Authority’s Authorised Representative. 18.3 The Authority shall be entitled to novate (and the Supplier shall be deemed to consent to any such novation) the agreement to any other body which substantially performs any of the functions that previously had been performed by the Authority.
