Universal Precautions. Hospices shall:
(a) Develop and implement initial orientation and ongoing education and training for all hospice workers, including students, trainees and volunteers, in the epidemiology, modes of transmis- sion and prevention of human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) and other blood−borne infections and the need for routine use of uni- versal blood and body−fluid precautions for all patients;
(b) Provide equipment and supplies necessary to minimize the risk of infection with HIV and other blood−borne pathogens; and
(c) Monitor adherence to the U.S. centers for disease control (CDC) recommended protective measures, known as universal blood and body−fluid precautions, as set out in the CDC’s publi- cation,Recommendations for Prevention of HIV Transmission in Health Care Settings, August 1987 and the update published in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report (MMWR), Vol. 37/No. 24, June 24, 1988, pp. 377−382. When monitoring reveals a fail- ure to follow recommended precautions, counseling, education or re−training shall be provided and, if necessary, appropriate disci- plinary action shall be taken for failure to comply with policies under this subsection.
Universal Precautions. Universal precautions shall be observed throughout the District to protect employees from contact with potentially infectious blood or other body fluids. According to the concept of universal precautions, all human blood and certain human body fluids are treated as if known to be infectious for blood borne pathogens.
Universal Precautions. A. Assume that all patients are potentially contagious and use appropriate barriers to prevent the transmission of pathogenic organisms. PPE include gloves, gowns, HEPA respirators, face xxxxxxx and appropriate handwashing.
Universal Precautions. The Employer and Employee will comply with the Universal Precaution standard recommended by the Center for Disease Control. A new Employee will receive an inservice regarding such standards upon hire. All Employees will receive proper training regarding these standards at least annually.
Universal Precautions. Compliance with this policy is mandatory, as it is designed to protect the health of you, your family, your co-workers, and the patient.
A. Exam gloves must be worn when examining a patient, when handling blood / bodily fluids or when the possibility of contact exists.
B. Gloves must be changed between patients.
C. If gloves are visibly soiled or torn, they must be changed.
D. Soiled gloves MUST NOT BE worn in the front cab of the ambulance.
Universal Precautions. Facility and Institution acknowledge that protection of participants in the F.E.E. from exposure to blood borne pathogens is the joint concern of facility, Institution and the participant. As applicable, Facility will make available to participants for use within the Facility all personal protective equipment, including gloves, gowns, masks, and other supplies necessary to comply with Centers for Disease Control guidelines, as appropriate to the participant’s F.E.E. If the F.E.E involves exposure to blood borne pathogens, Facility shall provide participants with education regarding blood borne pathogens appropriate to the participant’s educational training at Facility, and, shall maintain documentation of such education. Institution shall, to the extent allowed by law or regulation, offer to participants at substantial risk of directly contacting body fluids, antibody and or antigen testing and vaccination in accordance with requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Administration and Centers for Disease Control. Facility will use its best efforts to appropriately test the source patient and to obtain patient’s consent to disclosure of test results to the Institution and participant.
Universal Precautions. Mid Atlantic shall pick up and dispose of, in ---------------------- accordance with all applicable law, rules and regulation, all medical waste (including sharps and "red bags" waste) from the patient's homes regardless of the source of the medical waste, for any patient for whom the LHCSA is providing infusion therapy services. Mid Atlantic shall assure that all personnel handling said medical waste are properly trained with respect to the rules and regulations promulgated by OSHA, and that said the personnel comply with all Universal Precautions Standard established by Federal, state or local agencies.
Universal Precautions. Students shall be educated in the practice of universal precautions and adhere to MRH policies regarding the prevention of blood-born pathogens (e.g. hand washing, universal precautions, category specific isolation, infectious waste management, linen management). In the event a student experiences a percutaneous or mucous membrane exposure to blood or body fluids, the following procedures shall be followed:
1. Wash injury site with soap and water and apply antiseptic or irrigate involved mucous membrane with cupious amounts of saline and water.
2. Report the exposure to the department director and arrange for immediate post- exposure medical evaluation and complete the MRH injury form.
Universal Precautions. The Recipient shall adhere to “universal precautions,” as outlined in the guidelines for the prevention and management of exposures to blood and certain body fluids published by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).1 The Recipient shall ensure that each member of his staff adheres to universal precautions, which are designed to address real or perceived risks of surgery or other medical procedures for patients with HIV or other infectious diseases.
Universal Precautions. Universal Precautions and other special precautions as appropriate address the manner in which Hospital personnel may resolve concerns about their risk of exposure to infectious diseases. Universal Precautions are designed to address real or perceived risks of surgery or another procedure for patients with infectious diseases. Therefore, such concerns may not influence treatment decisions or recommendations to a patient with an infectious disease.
