XXXXX NOTICE. Xxxx leave shall begin on the first day of absence and continue until the officer returns to work or has used all of his accumulated sick leave. Off days, vacations, leaves of absence and holidays shall not be included in the computation of sick leave. Officers who are sick and unable to report to work shall contact the officer in charge at least one (1) hour before the start of the regular shift or assignment, stating the reason the employee is unable to report to work and, whenever possible, the anticipated number of days that the employee will be absent. Whenever possible, the officer shall make the call personally. If the officer in charge is not available at the time the call is made, the information shall be given to the dispatcher/communication specialist. Officers shall not be eligible for sick leave in excess of the sick days actually earned. If an officer has used his/her sick time, s/he may apply as additional Family Medical Leave certified sick time the vacation time and/or personal holiday time which s/he has available to him/her. Only those employees working a 5-2 schedule shall be allowed to use sick leave for medical or dental appointments. Exceptions may be granted by the Police Chief or designee. Sick leave may be used for the following reasons:
A. A personal illness, injury or medical disability that prevents the officer from performing his or her job, or personal medical or dental appointments.
B. Care of family members as required by the Wisconsin Family and Medical Leave Act 103.10.
C. Qualifying absences for Family and Medical Leave (federal statute).
D. Exposure of the employee to contagious disease when attendance at work would jeopardize the health of others.
E. Preventative health care of relatives or household members, up to one (1/2) day for each occurrence (Officers working 5/2 schedule only).
F. Illness of a child.
G. Illness of relatives or household members, up to three (3) consecutive days for each occurrence or as certified under Family Medical Leave.
