Application for Leaves. All leaves of ten (10) consecutive work days or less will be requested through and approved by the principal or immediate supervisor. Extended leaves of more than ten (10) days, with or without pay, will be requested through the Extended Leave Clerk’s Office in the Department of Human Resources. Employees shall notify supervisors with a two (2) week notice of their intent to take an extended leave of absence.

Application for Leaves a. MATERITY LEAVE – Application shall be made in writing to the Superintendent. Such application shall contain the desired dates for beginning and terminating the leave in accordance with Section 4. b. CHILD CARE LEAVE – Application shall be made in writing to the Superintendent. Such application shall contain the reason for requesting the leave and supporting information regarding the necessity of having the leave. Application for child care leave shall be considered by the Board of Education on an individual basis.

A reply from the Chief of Police concerning the leave of absence without pay shall be furnished to the employee in writing within ten working days. C. Upon the expiration of a leave of absence without pay, reasonable efforts will be made to reinstate the employee to the position occupied at the time the leave was granted, with the restoration of all benefits, including seniority, and credits previously earned and enjoyed. Benefits, seniority and credits shall not be earned during the time the employee is on a leave of absence.

In the event that the Department Head fails to comply with the time limits as set forth in subdivision D above, the request for such leave shall be deemed granted. This provision shall not apply to requests that do not conform to the requirements set forth in Section 4(A) of this Article.
