Early Relief. 8.17.1 Early relief (two hours or less) may occur pursuant to employee agreement; either expressed or implied and is unknown to the department. This practice will not have the effect of increasing the number of compensable hours of work where it is voluntary on the part of the employees.
8.17.2 If the practice of early relief is required by the department, the time involved must be added to the employee's tour of duty and treated as compensable time.
Early Relief. It is recognized practice for some unit employees to voluntarily relieve other unit employees working on the previous shift prior to the scheduled starting time. This practice shall not change the actual amount of hours worked nor afford additional benefits to an employee.
Early Relief. The common practice of relieving employees on the previous shift prior to the scheduled starting time shall not have the effect of increasing the number of compensable hours of work for employees.
A. Any early relief amongst employees shall be done voluntarily by the participating employees.
B. Early relief shall not be counted as additional time worked per each work period.
C. Early relief may be for a period ranging from 11 minutes, up to a maximum of one hour.
D. Early relief is documented by the appropriate Fire Company Log Book by the supervisor of the individual being relieved.
E. Early relief shall be infrequent and shall not be permitted as a routine or continual practice amongst individual employees over a period of time.
Early Relief. For early relief to take place the following must occur:
1) Only relieved by vehicle replacement member
2) The relief must be in uniform.
3) The relief must have their firefighting gear on all vehicles assigned by the individual being relieved.
4) The relief must notify the Captain/Sr. LT (shift SFO) that they are ready to relieve (name).
5) The individual being relieved must notify the Captain/ Sr. Lt. (shift SFO) that they have been relieved by (name).
6) Individuals being relieved will not change out of the approved uniforms until steps 1-5 have been accomplished.
7) The relief individual is responsible for any off going shift's duties not yet accomplished: Station/Vehicle maintenance.
Early Relief. Holdover Trades Early relief trades or hold over between employee(s) of four (4) hours or less shall not require a pay back, but shall require a trade card, and must be approved by the Assistant Chief or the Acting Assistant Chief on duty. Should an Employee need an early relief or hold over for less than one (1) hour, the employee may do so with verbal permission of the Assistant Chief on duty, and this will not require a trade card. Any employee who is holding over for another employee, and has the permission to do so by the Assistant Chief or the Acting Assistant Chief on duty, shall not be subject to call-in.
Early Relief. 1. Unit employees may voluntarily relieve other unit employees working on the previous shift prior to the scheduled starting time with the approval of Fire Management.
2. This practice shall not create any extra time worked for unit employees.
Early Relief. An Early Relief is defined as an occurrence where one employee relieves another employee three (3) or more hours prior to the normal end of a work shift. Any employee, assigned to a shift as strength, may engage in an early relief provided:
1) Such relief is between two (2) Firefighters; Firefighter-Paramedics; Lieutenants.
2) The Chief of Department, or designee, must approve the early relief request and such request is received and posted not less than one (1) hour prior to its becoming effective.
3) Such relief does not impose any additional cost to the Town. The employee being relieved early is only entitled to exemption from overtime for the shift following the early relief. The employee doing the relieving is only entitled to exemption from overtime for an overtime that would encroach upon the early relief timespan.
Early Relief. The Fire Chief or his/her representative may authorize employees covered by this Agreement to relieve another department employee of equal rank or qualifications for the position prior to the end of the scheduled shift.
Early Relief. Qualified employees are allowed to relieve another employee serving the previous shift prior to the actual scheduled starting time of the oncoming shift. This is entirely a voluntary practice on the part of the employees and shall not affect the compensable hours of work of the employee.
Early Relief. 78.1. In order to provide flexibility in relief time, during non-emergency situations, personnel going on duty may relieve those scheduled to go off duty up to two (2) hours before the time specified, unless there are exigent circumstances requiring the entire working shift to be held on duty.
78.2. Employees on a holdover list must wait until authorized to leave by the Battalion Management Team or 07:00 a.m. unless notified that they need to holdover.
78.3. Members may relieve each other at an incident scene with permission from an officer of the station and the Incident Commander.
78.4. Members may relieve each other at the hospital with the permission of a company officer, EMS Supervisor, or Chief Officer.
78.5. The Department shall provide transportation, if possible, for members to and from incident scenes or the hospital if it is determined that members on scenes or the hospital will not be relieved within an hour of the employee's scheduled off-duty time.
