Election Day Leave. Employees shall be entitled to three (3) consecutive hours off for the purpose of voting in any provincial or municipal election or referendum, unless otherwise amended by statute. Employees shall be entitled to four (4) consecutive hours off for the purpose of voting in any federal election or referendum, unless otherwise amended by statute. If the normal hours of employment do not permit this, such additional time shall be given at the convenience of the Corporation as may be necessary to provide such hours while the polls are open. The employees shall suffer no loss of pay for such absence.
Election Day Leave. Employees who are registered to vote and who do not have sufficient time to do so during non-working hours may take up to two hours off with pay in order to vote on each official election day. The paid time will be taken at a time mutually agreed upon by the employee and their supervisor, normally at the beginning or end of the regular working shift. Prior notice of at least one working day is required.

Bargaining unit employees must submit this request in writing at least one (1) week prior to Election Day. Two (2) hour Election Day Leaves shall be granted for either the start of the day or for the end of the day depending on the operational needs of the school as determined by the Principal or his/her designee.

On primary, general and special election days, employees who will be unable to vote because Election Day falls on their regularly scheduled work day may vote by absentee ballot and shall not be released from work to vote. Employees who are unexpectedly required to work on election day will be given sufficient time to vote if their legal residences or polling places are located within the City's Urban Growth Boundary. Such employees whose legal residences and polling places are located outside the Urban Growth Boundary may be released from work at the sole discretion of the City. Election days shall not be considered for any purpose as holidays. The parties agree that as long as elections in Oregon continue to be mail-in elections, absence from duty on Election Day is unnecessary, and therefore will not be granted. If mail-in elections in Oregon are eliminated then the above policy will again be applicable.
