Gangs. On a pier or terminal which is reopened within three calendar years of its disuse, seniority rights in employment for Regular Gangs shall be accorded as follows: • FIRST From among the Regular Gangs that are identified with such pier or terminal selected on the basis of their gang sen- iority as defined above at such pier or terminal, provided the gang is available for work substantially intact. • SECOND From among the Regular Gangs in the section, provided they are available for employment at such pier or terminal as intact gangs. • THIRD From among Regular Gangs from other sections, provided they are available for employment at such pier or terminal as substantially intact gangs.
Gangs. All gangs and detail jobs are frozen as of October 1, 1996. All new gang jobs and detail jobs are subject to bumping in the event that there are layoffs of frozen jobs. The laid-off employee will have a right to bump any less senior person from among those newly hired people. (Refer to 1988 Seniority Board Ruling regarding bump procedure.) Each employer will put forth its best effort to provide work to all gangs on its permanent roster. Work assignments to gangs will not be made solely on the basis of numerical calculations of productivity, but also according to qualifications, safety and reliability. Consolidation and employment opportunities for unfilled gangs to be discussed. Efforts will be made to employ gangs that fill out through consolidation. The Local shall have the right to question the employer’s assessment of productivity, reliability and qualifications of gangs and other labor and when so questioned it shall be the obligation of the employer to demonstrate to the Union its basis for such assessment. The parties agree that there will be an emergency meeting of the Trade Practice Committee TPC-XXX which will meet immediately and attempt to resolve the problem. Should the TPC-XXX fail to resolve the problem, the formal grievance procedure of the contract will be invoked immediately and the Committee of Six will meet immediately. In the event of a deadlock by the Committee of Six on a grievance, the grievance may be submitted to arbitration by the Union or the STA, but only the Union or the STA, in accordance with the Grievance Procedure set forth in Article XVII.
Gangs. The definition of a gang is as follows: A relatively durable, predominantly street-based group of young people who: See themselves (and are seen by others) as a discernible group Engage in a range of criminal activity and violence Identify with or lay claim over territory Have some form of identifying structural feature Are in conflict with other, similar, gangs Vulnerable young people are increasingly at risk of being exploited into gangs to ‘run’ drugs and commit crime. The video clip below and report at Appendix 1 should be familiar to all staff. The Provider will ensure that staff are trained to identify these risks and identifying behaviours that could alert to a young person being involved in gangs. Where engagement or risk of engagement of a young person with a gang is identified, the Support Provider will ensure that they work with the relevant authorities to raise an alert. In the first instance contact will be made with the Thurrock Youth Offending Team.
