Investigation and Presentation of Grievances. The Union may designate one employee as Shop Xxxxxxx. The Shop Xxxxxxx will be allowed release time, without pay, for the following activities: to present grievances to management; to attend grievance arbitration hearings; and, to attend conferences and hearings of the New York State Public Employment Relations Board. Such time spent in handling grievances during the Job Xxxxxxx'x or the designated Alternate's regular working hours shall be considered working hours in computing daily and/or weekly overtime if within the regular schedule of the Xxxxxxx. In the event the Xxxxxxx needs to conduct union business off Town property, the Xxxxxxx will be allowed release time without pay. The Xxxxxxx is expected to use only a reasonable amount of time to carry out this responsibility.

The President of the bargaining unit, or designee, shall be allowed necessary time off, without loss of pay or leave credits, while directly involved in the manner provided in the grievance procedure and to attend conferences and hearings of the New York State Public Employment Relations Board. The President, or designee, shall advise the Police Chief, or designee, of the grievance and shall schedule the activity at a time mutually agreeable to all, including the Chief. The President, or designee, will report back to the Police Chief, or designee, when his/her part in the grievance has been completed.
