LAY-OFF SEQUENCE where there is a reduction in the work force, employees within the department affected shall be reassigned by the department manager to such work, as they are capable of doing and taking seniority into account, all other factors being equal. A registered blind employee who has been given notice of lay off and who has bumping rights will be given the opportunity of a forty (40) working day job trial for the purpose of bumping. Management will exercise its discretion at the end of the job trial period to determine the employee's ability to do the job on a permanent basis. These trial periods apply to all bargaining unit positions except ones that require formal academic credentials. Any employee subsequently found to be surplus to the department shall have the right to displace a less senior employee in any other department, within the bargaining unit, provided they can do the job within a trial period of not less than ten

  • LAY-OFFS 10.01 The Employer agrees to notify the Union office of the names of employees laid off within the pay period of the date during which the layoff occurred, together with the employee's classification and latest available phone number.
