Leave for Death in the Immediate Family. (Bereavement) Members of the bargaining unit are entitled to be absent up to three (3) days (up to five (5) days if one way travel of 300 miles or more is required) for the death of any member of his/her immediate family. No deduction shall be made from the salary of such employee on account of such leave of absence. "Members of the immediate family" means the mother, father, grandmother, grandfather, or a grandchild of the employee or of the spouse of the employee, and the spouse, son, son-in-law, daughter, daughter-in-law, brother or sister of the employee, or any relative living in the immediate household of the employee. (Education Code 88194) Also included shall be stepmother or stepfather.

Leave for Death in the Immediate Family. (130) Leave with pay for up to five (5) days will be granted because of death in the immediate family or spouse’s immediate family; days may be taken nonsequentially.
Leave for Death in the Immediate Family. Leave of absence with pay because of death in the immediate family of a regularly scheduled person in AHS service may be granted by the Chief of Service for a period not to exceed three days. An additional two days’ leave may be granted by the Chief of Service and charged to the employee’s accrued sick leave balance in the event that one- way travel in excess of 300 road miles from the employee’s residence is required. Entitlement to leave of absence under this Section shall be only for all hours the employee would have been scheduled to work for those days granted, and, insofar as the first three days are concerned, shall be in addition to any other entitlement for sick leave, emergency leave, or any other leave. For purposes of this Section “immediate family” means mother, stepmother, father, stepfather, domestic partner, husband, wife, son, stepson, daughter, stepdaughter, brother, sister, xxxxxx parent, xxxxxx child, or any other person sharing the relationship of in loco parentis; and, when living in the household of the employee, a brother-in-law, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents and grandchildren. In the case of the death of the employee’s mother-in-law, father-in-law, grandparents or grandchildren, where the decedent was not living in the employee’s household, the employee shall be entitled to two days of paid leave of absence regardless of whether one-way travel in excess of 300 road miles from the employee’s residence is required.
Leave for Death in the Immediate Family. In the event of a death in the immediate family (same list as in "A" above), the employee shall be allowed, if necessary, a period of time off with pay not to exceed five (5) days per occurrence. In the event of a death of employee’s aunt, aunt’s spouse, uncle, uncle’s spouse, niece or nephew, the employee shall be allowed, if necessary, a period of time off with pay not to exceed one (1) day per occurrence. The maximum number of allowable paid days that may be used by an employee during any work year under this provision shall be ten (10) days regardless of the number of such deaths. The Superintendent or designee may at his/her discretion grant additional days.
Leave for Death in the Immediate Family. In the case of death in the immediate family of a regularly employed Teacher, the Teacher is entitled to be absent without loss of compensation for five (5) school days, to be used within the same school year, for the purpose of attending the last burial rites and attending to other personal matters of the immediate family member. School holidays falling in this period shall be counted as school days. "Immediate family" shall be interpreted as including only mother, father, sister, brother, children, stepchildren, husband, wife, xxxxxxxxxx, grandparent, and any permanent member of the Teacher’s household. Relatives by marriage of the Teacher's current spouse who are also defined as "immediate family" include only mother-in-law, father-in-law, daughter-in-law, son-in-law, brother- in-law, sister-in-law and spouse's grandparents.

The immediate management supervisor may require proof of the need for such leave as she considers necessary.
