Leave for Professional Development. The Employer shall provide each nurse one (1) paid professional development day per calendar year and provide each nurse educator and nurse practitioner two (2) paid professional development days per calendar year. One of the professional development days will be developed and presented by the hospital and may include re-certification. If the nurse is unable to access the professional development day in any given year as a result of the Hospital’s inability to replace them, the day may be carried over. Nurses may also apply for funded educational opportunities through the Employer’s education fund.

Leave for Professional Development a. The Administration recognizes the importance of professional development and will endeavor to provide such opportunities to staff members. Staff members who have served at least one (1) year full-time may be granted short-term leaves of absence to pursue professional development at workshops, seminars, training, and conventions. This leave shall be granted at regular pay and the recipient, upon the termination of the leave, shall return to his/her duties at the College. Application for such leaves shall be made to the appropriate Vice President, President, or their designees thirty (30) working days prior to the date for which the leave is requested. In certain circumstances, shorter notice for such leave may be considered. b. Staff members are encouraged to take advantage of the many training and professional development programs that are offered by Rhode Island College. Staff are also encouraged to discuss individual training and development needs with their supervisors and, where practical, such requests should be granted. The College offers a wide variety of programs to address the education needs of its employees from one-hour programs of instruction to matriculation in undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degree programs. PSA leadership is also encouraged to work with the Administration in recommending programs that would be of interest and value to broader groups of members.
Leave for Professional Development. 10.11.1 The District and the Faculty Association strongly support the provision of Leaves for Professional Development for all regular academic employees of the District. Such leaves provide benefit to the District, the individual, the individual’s department and the students of the institution through improved instructional and support services. It is the intent of this provision of the Agreement to provide academic employees the opportunity to conduct rigorous professional growth activities which meet the criteria of significantly improving the instructional and support services provided to students of the college in a manner beyond the routine responsibilities of a community college faculty member. All eligible employees are encouraged to apply for their Professional Development Leave (PDL) in accordance with the provisions of this Agreement and all such applications for leave approved under the provisions of this Agreement will be granted. 10.11.2 Such leave is not granted as a reward for work already performed, but rather as a means of preparing for improved service in the future. 10.11.3 Such leave shall be granted within the limitations of the Education Code sections 8776787770, and the following criteria: 10.11.3.1 Every eighteen (18) quarters a full-time faculty member is eligible for a professional development leave. Quarters are defined as primary terms; however, in the case of a faculty member with a 12-month load, one academic year will represent 3 quarters. Leaves without pay granted by the Board shall not be counted toward the 18 quarters and shall not be considered a break in continued service. Any other leaves not covered under this language will be considered on a case-by-case basis via negotiations. If the faculty member worked a reduced load or took unpaid time off during this 18-quarter period, the PDL will be paid at the prorated amount worked over this 18 quarter period. If a faculty member, for example, worked 1.0 FTE for nine quarters, and worked 0.75 FTE for nine quarters, the paid PDL would be paid at the prorated average FTE, which in this example would be 0.875 FTE. 10.11.3.2 The professional development leave shall begin at the beginning of one of the three (3) regular quarters following the completion of the

Leave for Professional Development. 11/5/1 Employees shall be granted five (5) days of professional time off during a calendar year without loss of pay. The scheduling of such absences shall be in accordance with the principles enumerated in Article VI, Section 3. The use of such time off shall be: at the employee’s discretion, regardless of sponsorship, to attend professional meetings, conventions, certification exams, institute seminars, continuing education, work shops related to the advancement of the employee’s development; may be applied to Sections 2 or 4 of this Article; or may be used to satisfy any other personal professional needs as deemed appropriate by the employee. At the sole discretion of the Employer, travel expenses may also be paid to the employee, and additional time off exceeding the aforementioned five (5) days, with or without loss of pay, may be granted for the purposes mentioned above.

This leave shall be granted at regular pay and the recipient upon the termination of the leave shall return to their duties at the College. Application for such leave shall be made through the immediate supervisor to the Associate Vice President for Administration for approval six (6) weeks prior to the date for which the leave is requested. Leave for Professional Development. An employee, on request and subject to the approval of the Employer, may be granted leave with pay to attend workshops, seminars, or other relevant professional development activities.

  • Professional Development 9.01 Continuous professional development is a hallmark of professional nursing practice. As a self-regulating profession, nursing recognizes the importance of maintaining a dynamic practice environment which includes ongoing learning, the maintenance of competence, career development, career counselling and succession planning. The parties agree that professional development includes a diverse range of activities, including but not limited to formal academic programs; short-term continuing education activities; certification programs; independent learning committee participation. The parties recognize their joint responsibility in and commitment to active participation in the area of professional development.

  • Professional Development Program (a) The parties agree to continue a Professional Development Program for the maintenance and development of the faculty members' professional competence and effectiveness. It is agreed that maintenance of currency of subject knowledge, the improvement of performance of faculty duties, and the maintenance and improvement of professional competence, including instructional skills, are the primary professional development activities of faculty members. (b) Information collected as part of this program shall be the sole property of the faculty member. This information or any judgments arising from this program shall not be used to determine non-renewal or termination of a faculty member's contract, suspension or dismissal of a faculty member, denial of advancement on the salary scale, nor affect any other administrative decisions pertaining to the promotion or employment status of the faculty member. (c) A joint advisory committee consisting of three regular faculty members who shall be elected by and are P.D. Committee Chairpersons and three administrators shall make recommendations for the operation, financing and management of the Professional Development Program.

  • Professional Development Committee There shall be a Professional Development Committee composed of three (3) members of the Association one of whom shall be the Bargaining Unit President or designate and three (3) representatives of the Hospital one of whom shall be the Chief Nursing Officer or designate and one human resources representative.
