Educational Opportunities. Teachers within the Department of Health and Human Services will be afforded the opportunity to further their education in a reasonable manner which does not interfere with the operation of the school programs, or other facility operations. Reasonable manner can include flex time changes and work schedules to accommodate teachers' attendance at class. Such accommodations/requests are subject to prior supervisory approval. In situations when the above reasonable accommodations cannot be made to a teacher's work schedule at the Department of Health and Human Services, a teacher may request an educational leave of absence, as long as the teacher is enrolled as a full-time student for credited coursework. Length of the educational leave of absence in that case is based on the length of the semester. Educational leave is based on best interests of the State, and is subject to prior supervisory approval. Employees become eligible for an educational leave of absence upon serving two years with the Department of Health and Human Services from last date of hire.

Educational Opportunities. An Employee wishing to enroll in any educational opportunity or training under this program should submit tuition and course-related fee reimbursement requests to his/her Department Director or the Chief of Staff for approval prior to registration. The immediate supervisor, Department Director or Chief of Staff shall evaluate all written requests for education reimbursement costs, tuition, required texts, course-related fees, and travel- related expenses submitted by individual Employees, based upon the following criteria: A. The course or curriculum outlined in writing by the Employee is directly applicable to the Employee’s work with the Borough and will demonstrably enhance the Employee’s job performance or promotional opportunities. B. The Employee is not receiving educational assistance or reimbursement from any other source. C. Courses which are approved under A above and are only offered locally during regular working hours and are approved by the Department Director or Chief of Staff will be considered as time worked by the Employee. D. The Employee has made timely written application for approval of the course and tuition reimbursement to his/her Department Director or Chief of Staff. E. The Employee submits evidence of satisfactory completion of the course, at which time cost reimbursement will be made. Satisfactory completion requires regular attendance and a passing grade of at least a “C.” F. An Employee wishing to enroll in any educational opportunity or training under this article must submit tuition and course-related fees refund requests to his/her Department Director or Chief of Staff for approval prior to registration. G. Employees who resign prior to completing one year of service after requesting and receiving educational/training reimbursement shall be required to pay back the Borough for such prior reimbursement. Such payback shall be deducted from the Employee’s final pay. The reimbursement requirement may be waived by the Chief of Staff.

With the approval of the Employer, such professional advancement may be attained through orientation programs, regular staff meetings, attendance at professional conferences and workshops and by granting leave for professional education.
Educational Opportunities. The Board of Education shall permit members of the bargaining unit to attend adult or evening classes where not in conflict with work schedules free of tuition, provided the employee meets the eligibility requirements for enrollment in the course and provided that the course is related to their primary work function for the Board of Education or will enable the employee to qualify for a higher classification within the school system. Initial inquiries by employees about the appropriateness of specific courses should be directed to the designated Human Resources administrator. Employees will be granted one education leave of absence for Student Teaching Leave student teaching. Such request must be made to the designated Human Resources administrator, not less than 60 days prior to the beginning of such leave and must contain the expected date of return. The employee will be returned to a position within the same classification at the end of the leave of absence.
Educational Opportunities. Both the Employer and the Union recognize a joint responsibility and commitment to provide the highest quality nursing care and to assist nurses to enhance their professional growth. Where approval has been given by the President/CEO or designate, to pay for a nurse to attend a general education session, the Employer will schedule nurses on a rotating basis. It is understood that nurses who attend such educational sessions will share the information with co-workers at a regularly scheduled staff meeting. Written copies of the information will be provided to the Employer for distribution to those who are unable to attend as a result of their client assignment. Educational opportunities for specialty skills or training may be distributed on a rotating basis to the appropriate specialty nurses as approved by the Employer.
Educational Opportunities. No bargaining unit member shall be normally required to provide on-the- job transportation as a condition of employment. A bargaining unit member who is required to drive as part of the performance of his or her job duties must drive a Borough vehicle. When a borough vehicle is not available, a bargaining unit member may use his/her vehicle and he/she shall receive seventy cents ($.70) per mile or the federal mileage rate, whichever is greater. No bargaining unit member will be required to use his/her own vehicle for Borough business unless he/she is receiving a car allowance and/or mileage reimbursement. Home to normal Borough work site or equivalent is not eligible for a mileage reimbursement.

Subject to operational requirements, and where it is determined by the Employer that no replacement staff are required, employees may be granted three (3) days paid education leave per year to attend professional advancement conferences and workshops . With the approval of the Employer, additional leave with pay may be granted to employees for professional education. Education leave is to be used in the year that it is granted and shall not be carried over to the next year.

Educational Opportunities. 13.1 The University shall be responsible for any and all costs or fees associated with training requirements mandated by Florida State Statute 943.135. 13.2 Employees and dependents shall be eligible in the same manner as other University employees for the University’s tuition-free course program. 13.3 The University will make a reasonable effort to continue existing training programs in law enforcement techniques and to develop new programs, and to ensure that opportunities to attend law enforcement and salary incentive training programs are equitably distributed among employees.
