Professional Development Activities. Professional development activities are activities initiated by individual faculty members or groups of faculty members and may include attendance at conferences, workshops or seminars which facilitate the following:
a) maintenance and enhancement of skills and knowledge as approved by the faculty member's department or required by a licensing body;
b) adaptation to changes in teaching methods or knowledge required;
c) preparation for career enhancement within the College;
d) acquisition of expertise in the areas of college governance or management. Professional development activities do not include the following:
e) serving on departmental or College committees;
f) assessing and admitting students to programs;
g) performing necessary ongoing maintenance and updating of courses, programs and instructional resources.
Professional Development Activities. For the purpose of this Article, professional development activities must:
1. Focus on the school classroom and research-based strategies that improve student learning;
2. Provide opportunities for teachers to practice and improve their instructional skills over time;
3. Provide opportunities for teachers to use student data as part of their daily work to increase student achievement;
4. Enhance teacher content knowledge and instructional skills;
5. Align with state and local academic standards;
6. Provide opportunities to build professional relationships, xxxxxx collaboration among principals and staff who provide instruction, and provide opportunities for teacher-to- teacher mentoring; and
7. Align with the plan of the District for an alternative teacher professional pay system. Staff development activities may include curriculum development and curriculum training programs, and activities that provide teachers and other members of site-based teams training to enhance team performance. The school district also may implement other staff development activities required by law and activities associated with professional teacher compensation models. Activities may be district-, building-, or team-sponsored, provided by an outside agency, or individually designed.
Professional Development Activities. 15.4.1 Professional Development activities shall be determined by, developed, and implemented through a Professional Development Committee (PDC).
15.4.2 There shall be three Professional Development days per year.
15.4.3 Professional Development education meetings for unit members shall occur during the contractual workday.
15.4.4 Costs of participation in Professional Development programs shall be borne by the School.
Professional Development Activities. If the following conditions are met, professional development activities will be eligible for an increase to the base salary up to the maximum of an employee’s salary range, upon successful completion of his/her initial Introductory Period. Official college transcripts or certification documents must be submitted to the Human Resources Department prior to final approval and for inclusion in the employee’s personnel file. A salary adjustment for an employee who works less than twelve (12) months per year or less than five (5) days per week will be prorated in the same proportion as his/her scheduled time worked bears to the normal full-time work schedule. These professional development activities must be pre- approved by the appropriate President’s Cabinet member.
Professional Development Activities. Faculty members may participate in pre-approved, College-sanctioned professional development activities. These activities may include in-house faculty and/or staff development workshops; off-campus professional association presentations and meetings; individual or group projects that support student retention, student completion, or enhancement of the advising function; and student organization advising/leadership. Time invested in these service activities shall be included in the annual work schedule.
Professional Development Activities. Conference or workshop attendance and/or presentations; honors; scholarship, research or artistic creation; growth and enrichment from sabbatical leaves.
Professional Development Activities. Employees may be granted leave with pay to attend conferences, conventions, symposia, workshops or short courses related to the employee's field of specialization or to participate in such activities in an official capacity such as lecturer or instructor.
Professional Development Activities. If the following conditions are met, professional development activities other than traditional graduate coursework will be considered as equivalent to graduate hours for purposes of promotion on salary lanes.
1. Undergraduate courses: Requests for approval of undergraduate coursework must be submitted in writing to the faculty member's immediate supervisor at least thirty
Professional Development Activities a. The Superintendent and the Professional Development Committee chair shall collaborate to facilitate professional development activities that meet the goals of the district, and the needs of individual teachers or groups of teachers.
b. The Principal shall be responsible for the approval of absences and the authorization of expense reimbursements to individual teachers for professional development activities authorized in accordance with this Article.
