Chile noted the main marine threats faced by the Pink-footed Xxxxxxxxxx and other arguments as described in AC7 Doc 24. Chile also thanked the PaCS and SB Working Groups for considering this document. The Chilean delegate remarked that Chile gave priority to the creation of this document and highlighted the assistance of Xx Xxxxx Xxxxxx (Instituto de Fomento Pesquero, Chile), Mr Xxxxxxx Xxxxxx (Subsecretaría de Pesca, Chile), Xx Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxx (Oikonos, Chile), Xx Xxxxxx Xxxxx (Isntituto Xxxxxxxxx Xxxxxxx), Xx Xxxxx Xxxxx (Xxxxxxx, USA) and Mr Xxx Xxxxxx (Canadian Wildlife Service).

Criteria originally tabled were amended following inputs from Working Group reports (see AC8 Doc 11 and AC8 Doc 12 Rev 1) where the value of having established criteria to provide an independent tool to assess the merit of a species being listed relative to other species was agreed.
LISTING OF NEW SPECIES. 16.1 The Vice-Chair introduced paper (AC2 Doc 21), proposing an objective procedure for selecting candidate species for inclusion in Annex 1 of the Agreement. It was noted that the First Meeting of Parties requested that a discussion paper on this subject be prepared by the Advisory Committee and that South Africa had offered to take the lead in preparing the paper.

LISTING OF NEW SPECIES. 16.1 The Vice-Chair introduced paper (AC3 Doc 18), proposing an objective procedure for selecting candidate species for inclusion in Annex 1 of the Agreement. This paper is a revision of the paper presented at AC2 (AC2 Doc 21). At AC2 it was noted that some of the criteria were not exclusive of each other and that this could result in some double counting of some values. This issue is addressed in the revised paper as well as giving greater weight to ‘at sea’ threats.
LISTING OF NEW SPECIES. 17.1 The Advisory Committee at its Third Meeting (Xxxxxxxx, Chile June 2007) agreed to consider the addition of the three North Pacific albatrosses, the Short-tailed Albatross, Laysan Albatross, and Black-footed Albatross, to Annex 1 of the Agreement, and requested that information regarding the species’ conservation status be presented to the Fourth Meeting of the AC in 2008. Xxxx Xxxxxx summarized the history and rationale for including these species (AC4 Doc18, AC3 Doc 18, AC2 Doc 21) and highlighted the mutual benefits to both ACAP and existing domestic and international efforts to conserve these three species. The USA presented information on the conservation status, threats, and conservation actions for these three species (AC4 Docs 44, 45, 46). The USA thanked Xxx Xxxxxx (Canada), BirdLife International, and the ACAP Secretariat for its assistance in the preparation of these species information documents.
LISTING OF NEW SPECIES. 18.1 The Convenor of TWG presented a paper authored by that Working Group on the choice of a standard taxonomy to be used when considering new species for Annex 1 of ACAP (AC10 Doc 22 Rev 1). The Convenor noted that the revisions made to this report since the original were in response to some of the corrections suggested by an information paper from Birdlife International (AC10 Inf 15).
