Orientation/Inservice/Professional Development. (a) An orientation and in-service program will be provided to all employees; these programs shall be reviewed and discussed from time to time by members of the Association Management Committee. A newly employed employee shall not be placed in charge, until she has been fully oriented to the home. The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation of a newly- hired employee: i) She is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the employer, and the daily routine of employees in the Home on all three (3) shifts. ii) The period of orientation shall be for a minimum of seven (7) days. The Employer will not unreasonably deny requests for additional orientation. iii) She shall be scheduled as an additional employee to the usual staffing pattern. iv) The employee or employees involved in the orientation will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly-hired employee’s personal file, which will be reviewed with such employee, and the employee shall also be able to comment. (b) Both the Employer and the Union recognize the joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and participate in, in-service education. The Union supports the principle of its members’ responsibility for their own professional development and the Employer will provide programmes related to the Ministry of Health Long Term Care in-service requirements. Available programmes will be publicized. (c) Where computers are introduced into the workplace and nurses are required to utilize those computers in the course of their duties, the Home agrees that necessary computer training will be provided at no cost to the nurses involved.

(c) The following minimums shall be observed in the orientation of a newly- hired Nurse: i) She/he is to be familiarized with the physical aspects of the building, the applicable policies and procedures of the Manor, and the daily routine of Nurses in the Manor on all three (3) shifts. ii) The period of orientation shall be for a minimum of four (4) days. The Manor will not unreasonably deny requests for additional orientation. iii) She/he shall be scheduled as an additional Nurse to the usual staffing pattern. iv) The Nurse or Nurses involved in the orientation will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly-hired Nurse’s personnel file, which will be reviewed with such Nurse, and the Nurse shall also be able to comment. (d) Both the Manor and the Association recognize their joint responsibility and commitment to provide, and to participate in, in-service education. The Association supports the principle of its members' responsibility for their own professional development and the Manor will endeavour to provide programs related to the requirements of the Manor. The Manor will endeavour where practical to schedule in-services at times which will facilitate the attendance of nurses working outside the day shift.

(c) She shall be scheduled as an additional employee to the usual staffing pattern.

The Employer will not unreasonably deny requests for additional orientation. iii) She shall be scheduled as an additional employee to the usual staffing pattern. iv) The employee or employees involved in the orientation will confirm that it has been completed, and this will be noted on the newly-hired employee’s personal file, which will be reviewed with such employee, and the employee shall also be able to comment.

  • Professional Development 9.01 Continuous professional development is a hallmark of professional nursing practice. As a self-regulating profession, nursing recognizes the importance of maintaining a dynamic practice environment which includes ongoing learning, the maintenance of competence, career development, career counselling and succession planning. The parties agree that professional development includes a diverse range of activities, including but not limited to formal academic programs; short-term continuing education activities; certification programs; independent learning committee participation. The parties recognize their joint responsibility in and commitment to active participation in the area of professional development.

  • Professional Development Program (a) The parties agree to continue a Professional Development Program for the maintenance and development of the faculty members' professional competence and effectiveness. It is agreed that maintenance of currency of subject knowledge, the improvement of performance of faculty duties, and the maintenance and improvement of professional competence, including instructional skills, are the primary professional development activities of faculty members. (b) Information collected as part of this program shall be the sole property of the faculty member. This information or any judgments arising from this program shall not be used to determine non-renewal or termination of a faculty member's contract, suspension or dismissal of a faculty member, denial of advancement on the salary scale, nor affect any other administrative decisions pertaining to the promotion or employment status of the faculty member. (c) A joint advisory committee consisting of three regular faculty members who shall be elected by and are P.D. Committee Chairpersons and three administrators shall make recommendations for the operation, financing and management of the Professional Development Program.

  • Professional Development and Training The Company shall pay for or reimburse the Executive for any reasonable professional development or training.
